New update on Kathryn

Went up today; scared spitless as to what I would find. To my relief, she has remained quite stable. They had to turn on the BP meds only briefly when her systolic went to 74. It shot up to 175, they shut down the meds and it settled in at roughly 115 to 130. Her temp (ear) was 99.0 and her patelets have recovered somewhat from 22 to 34 in 12 hours. When you consider that a week ago they wanted me to start digging, I don't know what to make of this. I assume that any signs in the plus direction should be considered a gain. I cannot give you any other numbers, but the resident was a bit more caution than the surgeon was yesterday. The infusion nurse came in, hadn't seen Kathryn in 5 or 6 days and said "Wow. Down from 11 infusions to 5." I thke that as a positive as well. Her lung function has not changed, either up or down.

Your wife does NOT have a Terminal Illness, its not Cancer, Alzheimers its an injury that while serious, she should be able to recover from.

Thank you for the report. Overall, Kathryn is improving. Greatly, compared to late last week and even better compared to earlier last week. She's going in the right direction. It makes sense they would be tracking and addressing certain specific test numbers.....that's not an indication she's moving in the wrong direction.

A few of us seem to have the feeling she'll be okay. And that's consistent with what we're seing. Chin up, Bob. In the meantime, she's getting prayers from all over the globe.

The power of this band of misfits seems to be working!
Thanks for the good news.

Stop worrying yourself to a frazzle! If she had gotten worse they would have called you at home, so come to the hospital every day expecting some gains, and she should have some.

The way you feel inside will show, at least partially, on the outside and if for no other reason you need to stay strong for her and let her know that you are expecting to pull through and get better.

Talk with her even if she is sleeping and keep telling her that she is getting better and that everything will work out. The power of positive thought and the will to survive should not be under-estimated. Course all of us praying for you guys cannot hurt either!

I had a long chat about Kathryn an hour ago with our Chief of Surgery who has managed lots of cases like this. He was extremely encouraging. He said that sometimes it can take more then a month for the lungs to regain function, but they generally will. She may be left with some degree of pulmonary fibrosis, but he told me that most people in Kathryns condition WILL recover. I was happy to hear such an optimistic appraisal from an expert. Hang in there, Bob!
