Kathryn on June 20 (Wed)

Not her best day. She had a setback with her heart last night (tachycardia(?))and this morning's visit was only 20 minutes out of the two hours in her room with folks running in and out. THey were getting her ready for an !!AM CT scan.I spoke with the cardiologist just a few minutes ago by phone. The echocardiogram a few days ago showed no abnormalities, although the "markers" seem to indicate an MI. However, he warned me that with her diminished kidney situation, these markers can show up and mean nothing. So, he is going to run another echocardiogram for camparison purposes. If there is coronary artery disease, she is far too sick for stent insertion. He recommends watchful waiting. Her platelet count is over 50 now. They cut back on the diruetics in order to keep her blood pressure up. Back on the BP medicine. I am still encouraged since other systems seem to be coming back "on line". Her O2, because of her event was temporarily raise to 100% but they had it dialed back to 70% by the time I left at 11AM. It is now 1:30PM.

This is turning into a wild ride. I hope to rest a while this afternoon and go out to dinner with a neighbor/buddy.

I am still confident. I tell everyone: "Don't try to be optomistic. Trying sets one up for failure. Just BE optomistic."

I see this as a very minor setback on the road to recovery. Like you, everyone needs to remain optimistic!

I know all about wild rides. The most important advice ever given to me is quite simple: BREATHE. Everything else flows from that. Try not to feed into the craziness...hospitals suck and they breed anxiety. This is eye of the storm time. Good call on having dinner with a friend...that is key. Your mind needs some distractions here and there to allow for recharging.

Sounds like it is going in the right direction. Try not to chase the numbers, and just focus on the overall path. No way but through...

Is she conscious or is she sedated to the point of being non-responsive?

She is sedated. The times she has been awakened she gets very agitated and wants to come home. (tried to pull her feeding tube from her nose) I have to conclude that the sedation is for her own good.

Yes...She is my little fighter.

She sounds like a pretty tough gal. Get some rest and get out of there for a few hours with your buddy.

You keep mentioning the oxygen they are giving her. Important number is oxygen saturation(O 2 Sat is what they say)

The heart rate goes up if the volume of blood goes down, pumping less blood faster to keep up. Diuretics and renal problems can jack with your volume.

Hang tough brother

Hay, at least you didn't get her birth control pills in the mail! Just a little joke. No offense. Hay, use that story with the nurses and her, she might get a kick out of it. Laughter being the best medicine and all...

prayer and faith...and todd's advice to breathe is spot on. it's easy to get so caught up in the worry over a loved one that we often fail to take decent care of ourselves. breathe and maintain some amount of routine in your day. keep speaking positive to her while she's cognizant during your visits, as i'm sure i'm stating the obvious..
