Luggage Capacity Alfa 156?

Looking to rent car in Italy for 2 weeks. One choice is Alfa 156. We are 2 adults 2 small children w/ luggage. Luggage is two large backpacks, two (largest carry-on size) roller bags, and a couple of handbags daypacks etc. Can this be crammed into the 156 (not the Sportwagon)? As long as it is doable, don't care how cramped it is, we'll be fully loaded like this for only the first and last day.

It will be tight.

We just got back from Italy. The good news is the vast majority of cars sold and rented in Italy are station wagons. You should have no trouble getting a station wagon version of that Afla - and then you would have enough room. Otherwise two large packs and two roll on's will almost certainly not fit into the trunk.

i think a 156 has a very deep boot, average height, but deep
and with 2 kids, i guess it's possible to put some stuff on the back seat as well...

i'de be more worried bout italian traffic, it's... well, it's not the US.
it helps to be a somewhat confident, assertive driver

found this one on Google

Thanks. That boot will hold the two large backpacks and not much more, looks like. I found another rental company that has a Fiat Multiplia, I think I'll try to reserve that instead. Hear you on the traffic, I've been okay driving in Italy though I don't find it restful.

The 156 has approximately the same luggage capacity as a BMW 3 series or an Audi A4 (maybe slightly less). If you can fit your luggage in those cars, you should be able to do it in the Alfa.

If you can, avoid renting a Multipla and get an Alfa instead.

i think the boot picture is deceiving
the opening isn't to big, but there's plenty of room behind that bumper, and then it doesn't show the depth perspective enough in this picture...

just look at that cutaway drawing.. that's not a tiny boot

Personally I would rather struggle and squeeze the luggage into the 156 than drive a multipla, do you really want to be seen in one of these?

Go with a 156. Maybe just get some soft carry ones and you should be fine........

What I do is pack light and enjoy shopping out there!

If you have a car, why have big backpacks??

So is the Multiplia that horrible to drive? I thought it looked interesting, with the three-across seating and Alien-growth dashboard. You're right though, I peeked in one and it barely has a boot.

Why the backpacks - well, they're just what we have for luggage. The big Swiss Army brand backpacks with rollers/T-handle. I find them easier to handle than regular suitcases. And we're already in Europe (been in Paris for 10 days now) so can't change luggage.
