I'm thinking of buying a fixer-upper boat - help? ideas?

https://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/boatDetails.jsp?currency=USD&units=Feet&currencyid=100&boat_id=1451158&checked_boats=1451158&back=%2Fcore%2Flisting%2Fcache%2FsearchResults.jsp %3Ftype%3D%2528Power%2529%2BMotoryacht%26hmid%3D0% 26sm%3D3%26enid%3D0%26luom%3D126%26currencyid%3D10 0%26cit%3Dtrue%26boatsAddedSelected%3D-1%26ftid%3D0%26ps%3D30%26slim%3Dquick&searchtype=

725ft./221m Unfinished 12 deck Passenger Vessel

Steel hull & superstructure built in Poland in 1990, length extended by 50m/164ft. in 1995 in Greece for the original owner who went bankrupt.. New owner not interested in completing the 13,000 ton (lightship) cruise vessel and it is now at the stage where in can be completed by our competent ship builders in record time as per Buyer's specific requirements. Ideal also as a floating condominium project or ro-pax. The price "as is, where is" with engines, generators and other equipment on-board (see list below) is US$15 Million, or can be completed turn-key in 20 months for US$130,000,000. Lying in the Eastern Mediterranean.

I figure working nights and weekends and spare time, I should be able to do it myself. Especially when I can save a hundred and fifteen million over having the shop do it. Anybody's old man got an ultimate set of tools I can borrow?

If you want to spend $130 million, why not buy a sailboat...

Hope that you know what a boat is? "A hole in the water you shovel money into"....

That's gorgeous, but not big enough. And I want to the value for filling the diesel tanks to equitable to the adjusted GNP of Botswana... a savings account if you will.

Joe..You beat me to it. I have had friends "back east" with boats up to 32 feet who did most of their own work. Family life suffers, the bank account suffers and the boat doesn't look all that much different even after those precious $$$$$$ invested. Megamovers had an episode this week about moving a boat that was not as big as kaisen described (by far)!!

Would this wind up being a money maker?

Bob,

I love boats but they can be a real money pit. Now if you live on one then its can be a different thing but otherwise can cost a bunch. I have several vices already, do not need more!

Think I could get that thing transported to Lake Havasu? It'd make a great party boat. Hold a few kegs.

Boats, the only thing that makes vintage racing look like a bargain.

You know, I had one of those once, and it just wasn't all it was cracked up to be. They don't get the best milage, they are difficult to fish off of or water ski behind, and they are hard to park. I would keep looking.

Growing up on a sandbar always made a live aboard an option if I wanted. I figured that a used tug was best bang for the buck and provided the best living space. Electrics and mechanicals are easily accessible. I could even run it around the Caribbean with confidence it could handle any sea I'm in.

As far as Lake HavaZoo... it would be easy to create a trick mattress room w/ ladders and ropes. I'd even have the fire hose attached to a keg of beer. Any female venturing aboard would have clothes off in 15 minutes. It wouldn't be as good as having a trick ocean sailboat racer in Newport but it would be good enough imo.

Otherwise... the center rig is a 29' Fountain. I spent a weekend on it at Lake HavaZoo.

It may be the nicest boat on the Lake for its size and the girls love it.

Fixer upper boat.....wow. Scary.

Why not get into something cheaper, like launching your own satellites?

Have a cold shower while tearing up $100 bills. It will be cheaper and about as much fun.

Thumbs up

Just find a good friend with a boat. I had a bud that drank too much while boating so I was always the designated driver.

I refinished a 24 foot sailboat - can't imagine one that big... or that much money!
