SCOTUS Upholds 1st Amendment

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070625/ap_on_go_su_co/scotus_campaign_finance

Quote:
The Supreme Court loosened restrictions Monday on corporate- and union-funded television ads that air close to elections, weakening a key provision of a landmark campaign finance law.

The court, split 5-4, upheld an appeals court ruling that an anti-abortion group should have been allowed to air ads during the final two months before the 2004 elections. The law unreasonably limits speech and violates the group's First Amendment rights, the court said.
I find it hard to disagree with this opinion, but I'd like some insights from the peanut gallery here.

Campaign Finance Reform, ala McCain-Feingold, effectively trampled the 1st Amendment. Thankfully, the majority did what they were appointed to do: uphold the Constitution. The minority are clearly the lap dogs of the left.

It is fine for labor unions to extort money from their members to support the unions' leftist agenda, but other groups of like-minded citizens are prohibited from freely expressing their position. What a load of Washington crap!

For once, The People have won a battle in the war against power drunk federal legislators.

Does this mean the NRA is no longer muzzled as well? Hope so. I've been very disturbed by the blatantly unconstitutional legislation coming out of congress.

Really?

I'm bemused by the "Bong hits 4 Jesus" decision, also concerning 1st Amendment, in the same breath.
