record your own ring tone for cell phone
On the principle that the collective knowledge of Pelican Off Topic is all knowing I come seeking knowledge.
My in-laws have these cool cell phones they bought a couple years ago, the LG 7000, that let them record anything on the phone, and use that as a ring tone. For example, my father in law's ring tone is my three year old daughter saying, "Papa. Answer your phone". So it's time for my wife and I to upgrade our phones, and we want ones that allow us to do the same. We went into the Verizon store, and the salesman says he doesn't know of any phones that will let you do that. I am guessing this is a feature that cut into selling ringtones, and so was eliminated? If anyone know a currently for sale phone where we can do this, or upload a sound file of some kind to use as a ring tone I would appreciate any info. Thanks, |

(ringtone is the sesame street martians attempting to talk to a phone...)

Save the one you want on your computer.
Send it to your phone with blue tooth. Select it as the ring tone. Ring tones are almost an industry in Europe. You can find most things and download direct to your phone.

Thanks for the help guys. It turns out the guy helping me the first time didn't know what he was talking about. You can create your own sound files, convert them to windows media, download them onto the phone using a min-SD memory card, and use them as ringtones with ALL the phones Verizon carries. I went back tonight, and talked to someone different, and she didn't know, but she asked her manager, and got the correct information. Now that I can pick any phone now I have to decide on which one.

i want one that sounds like a real telephone, followed by"hello, this is jim rockford. leave your name and message and i'll get back to you."
failing that being available, the jack bauer/ctu ring would do. |

Most new phones can act as a sound/voice recorder, and anything you record should be able to be used as a ringtone. Most new phones also allow you to use mp3 or wav files as ringtones too.
