i have no use for an I-pod and I have no use for an i-phone. Text message? I'll just call and leave a message thank you.
But, .... there is a segment of our society that has to have the latest gadget, the newest fad, even if it is silly or of no use. To them, a person would not be cool unless they have the same gadgets. These are the people standing in line. These are the people who pretend to be wealthy and hide the fact that they are so in debt they are one paycheck from bankruptcy. The most important thing to them is keeping up with the jones' and fitting in. What they really need to do is find a different group of friends to try and impress, or better yet stop trying to be cool and impress anyone and just be who they are. The downside to that is if their judgement is all screwed up they will judge themselves by the standards of other people who are screwed up (the jones') so they couldn't imagine just being themselves because they hate themselves. It's sad. They don't measure up to a stupid, unrealistic standard. My best friend is caught up in that game. He makes less than half of what I make, but he lives in a ritzy part of south OC. His wife drives a new decked out yukon with all the bells and whistles, they spend $750 on a microwave, $2700 on a refrigerator, and $400 on a matress so they can tell everyone how much it cost. They would be ashamed to try and get a deal on something, that would imply they they can't afford the best. He rarely has more than a few dollars in his pocket. They are broke and can barely pay the minimum on their credit cards. I prefer not to be cool to them. |
Every time I see the iPhone commerical showing it smoothly and seamlessly navigating from screen to screen, I envision it locking up .... same way my iPod does.
One potential positive is for owners of most 2007 BMW's built after March -- they're hardwired to plug into the iPhone. Hmmm, maybe it integrates with BMW's infamous iDrive (more popularly known as "whyDrive?") to allow you to operate your car from the keypad. |

thumbs up! I know the kind of people like you have described. they have sold their souls to the "system" and living on borrowed times. 3K for the latest phone? hey, no big deal. we're all wealthy now. personally, there is no shame in shopping for a better deal. Some of my clients are multi-millionaires, but they are all humble, drive older cars, not too flashy, dress down, don't have too many expensive gadgets, etc... however , they do give me a hard time about the 911 from time to time..:) |

I guess I'm just a curmudgeon, but I have no interest in constantly being entertained. Life is entertaining enough. :p |
If I had been watching a video iPod on thursday, I would have missed the fat woman/boyfriend affair, sucking tongues and grabbing each other's butt in the parking lot for 5-10 minutes. It was quite entertaining.

[fingers crossed] Is that something unique to Houston? [/fingers crossed] :D

Sadly, I doubt it...
