Is it possible to weld brass?

Sure, electrobrazing or brazing is easy. What is the piece?

My 951 uses a toothed cable to drive the sunroof mechanism. The motor is in the trunk, and a brass tube containing the cable runs up to the sunroof. There is a mounting flange on the tube that was welded (or is it brazed?) on, and it has broken free. Consequently, the tube just pushed away from the sunroof mechanism when to motor runs, rather than driving the gears to raise the roof.

JB Weld
![]() I don't know if you want flame for brazing in the area and electrobrazing takes some practice and setup (basically MIG like welding on brass), it's easy to blow holes though.

I have the whole assembly removed from my car. Could I take it to a machine shop to fix? We are talking a weld that is 3mm long here. What could I expect for it to cost?

If it's out then sure a place could braze it easily. Maybe a 12 pack of beer or $20-$40 tops. Clean the area with a wire brush real well first for them, they'll like that and be more willing to quickly do it for you.

Legion,
Brass is "Brazing". Consider this; You can get a good quality silver based solder and solder it with a Propane torch. Apply some good quality acid flux first. Then clean it thoroughly to remove the acid from the crystaline pours of the brass. If you dont, it will continue to corrode.

Legion - I'm with Robert on this one, silver solder would work just fine, even a regular solder would probably work, easy to try and if it doesnt do the job, you could then explore other options. Heating with a small torch or even an electric stove top if you have one would do the trick.
Good luck Matt

Chris,
Clean the hardware before hand using a degreaser or solvent. Remove all foreign matter Paint grease etc. because it will effect the inter-mechical bond of the silver/tin. Good luck! P.s. As you know my typing and grammar frequently suffer because of my haste, But I am actually pretty good at fixing things as my peers claim. I have many learned tricks and always willing to share. ![]()
