ok then, what is your daily driver, and how do you like it?
I have an Acura RSX-S and it's a blast!
I can throw a Hiwatt 4X12 cab in a road case in the back, or a mountain bike or whatever and go on my way..... or I can seat 4 people ( hopefully the back two passingers are midgets ). I drive mostly highway and get 35-36 mpg with no problem ( I drive it pretty easy though ) It has 62,000 miles and not a single problem except for the rear hatch shocks going bad. :( The car is a BLAST to drive .... 200 hp, 8,000 redline, 6 speeds and probably one of the best shifting cars on the Planet. The only flaw with the car is I have all these damn kids in the Civics wanting to race me all the time. |
'92 BMW 325i E36 w/ bilstein sports. Car has about 280,000 miles on the clock and still runs, drives and looks good. It gets about 26 mpg. If my daughter who occasionaly drives it when she needs to haul 4 people or "needs" AC, does not wreck it, I plan to see just how many miles it can go. It still has the stock clutch believe it or not and uses very little oil. Best 5 grand I ever spent when I "stole" it about 8 years ago when it had 140k on the clock and needed struts and AC work.

'90 Mazda Miata.
The first year I had this car was rough due to the amount of repairs it needed (made my 944 look dirt cheap!) but once I got the bugs worked out of it, it has been a very solid, reliable car. Easy to work on, too. :p It's a blast to drive, easy to park, fairly good on fuel (not as good in the winter, but not horrible) and fun in the snow with my snow tires. Unfortunately, it's not quite as good on the long road trips, but I have another car for that task. This may end up becoming my track flogger if I get a "grown up" car down the road, but currently I suffer from "automotive ADHD" with my plans, so we'll see how that goes... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1183032267.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1183032285.jpg BB. |
Had been driving the 944 for the past year but picked up a 2002 996 Coupe about a month ago. Although I didn't buy it for fuel economy I do find I average 24 or 25 mpg but have got about 32 mpg on a run up to Charlotte. If I did ever get onto the gas, which I don't on public roads ;), I expect it would drink quite heavily 'cos it takes off like a greyhound after a hyperactive hare. It's nice to have cold A/C, especially in summer down here. Also it's so spacious that I managed to get a whole potted plant in the trunk AND a folded up deck chair in the back, although that was pushing it to be honest.

BMW 330i with 120Kmi on the clock. It's no Porsche, but it's classy, and it handles pretty well. 200 horses isn't a whole lot, but it's more than enough to handle my daily drive. Around here, the traffic is so bad that it's more important to be comfortable (A/C, good stereo, comfortable seats, quiet interior) than it is to handle well and be powerful.
Maintenance so far has been trivial. I've replaced the slider-doodads on the sunroof (20 minutes), changed the oil (15 minutes), replaced the front rotors, and adjusted the driver's side window, and so far it's all been _very_ straightforward. Would I do it again? Absolutely. |
2000 Silverado, extended cab short bed, 2wd, 5.3 auto. Slow, 17 MPG, sucks to park. Only bought it because we have remodeling to do on our house, which is a royal pain without a truck. Would I do it again? Not if I didn't have to.

Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 1996.
Love it. Such great mileage! |
1998 Toyota 4Runner. I love it! It has NEVER let me down or needed anything except tires. It has about 85k miles on it now. Well it's my winter beater now cause I just picked up a '07 Subaru STI Limited that I'll be using for a daily driver during the summer months.
|
Just bought a used 00' Dodge Ram 1500 to pull a boat. I've never been a truck guy so its taking some getting use to. I'll know in a few months if I made a good decision by buying used instead of new.
|
My 944 of course. Summer, Winter, everything.
Porsche... there is no substitute! |
The Mercedes is my DD. Love it. Absolutely fantastic in the role. It's reliable, good-looking, fun, sporty, convertable and comfortable. Everything works well and reliably - including the a/c.
The 944s (before I bought the SLK) are decent DD's but honestly I was getting sick and tired of spending every weekend in the garage non-stop because of too many projects on them. It's one thing if they're my "fun" cars and wrenching is an optional activity that I find enjoyable, rewarding and oddly cathartic, but it crossed the line when it was trying to cram that in AND stay on top of all the "routine" maintenance just to keep them operational for commuting purposes. At the time, I was commuting 70+ miles a day, so I HAD to have a fully-operational, working, dependable car at all times - preferably with a backup on deck "just in case". Now that I have my newer DD (which nicely has a warranty too), the 944s are back to being "fun" again. |
My '86 911 except in July and August when the temperatures and humidity are both above 90. I don't have AC in the 911. Then I drive my '05 Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 hemi. Faster than most cars off the line. Gas mileage is around 11mpg in the city and 19 on the highway.

I split my DD duties between these 2 cars:
1980 911 (it heading to NC next week to spend the summer - I drive it from Nov - June in Florida and the rest in NC when I am there) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...C_0013-1-1.jpg Leased Audi A6 (counting the months until it ends) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...3/DSC_0136.jpg |
mine is 75 Carrera 110k miles...
Wife/Kiddo/Tow car in background 06/Xterra It gets a little rough when it's 90 plus (no ac) but I bike to work a lot as well. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1183039890.jpg |
'98 Acura Integra GSR sedan. 8100 redline, wails like a banshee when it is on the cam(variable valve timing) 4 doors, decent back seat and trunk, tad under 30 MPG around town. 140,000 miles of frequent trips to redline. Gas, oil, tires, a timing belt around 100,000, and brakes twice. Had to get boots on steering rack cahnged out as I dripped brake fluid on them doing the brakes and the rubber rotted.
Has been a great car, got it with 4 miles on it. It is a sedan, so after I took the badge off the back indicating it was a GSR the rice boi crowd leaves me alone. Almost as good as the old bug, but that was a convertible |

The 911 does daily driver duties, but our family grocery-getter is an 04 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition. I call it the pimp-mobile. I hate it. It's a pig on gas, the automatic transmission is terrible (takes forever to get into gear from park, I can't tell you how many times I've peeled the tires accidentally IN REVERSE!), the suspension is horrible - you get motion sickeness from all the bouncing - it feels like a boat. The seats aren't very comfortable, and the back seat is at a terrible angle for installing baby seats. The only thing I like about it is the storage space and the sound system. The lease is up in December and I can't wait to get rid of it!

The car in my signature.
It's got heat in the summer and AC in the winter;) |
92 911 Turbo (as often as possible)
My Electra Glide during the summers Tahoe when its snowing. |
1965 Corvair Monza. TRUE pillarless coupe, 2 speed Powerglide, ice cold A/C (Sanden compressor), easy to work on, no blind spots, fold-down rear seat, large trunk, gets WAY more waves and "thumbs-up" than either of our Porsches. A true hoot to drive except for when you stop in a parking lot (always someone wanting to ask questions or share a story) *EDIT* Sorry for the double post. slow computer this AM http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1183042894.jpg

My daily is a Chevy S-10 (needs to be a truck) from the last year they made them. I have RWD (no 4x4) with a limited slip, the towing package, and the larger V6. The manual gearbox is a special heavy duty unit with straight cut gears, and I have a lower final drive. I also run car profile Kumhos, which lowes the drive ratio even more. For a truck it accelerates fast and is fun to drive, and didn't cost much, and I can still load it up and haul.
Had to disable the ABS on this truck because under hard breaking the rear lifts a little and the ABS unit kicks in too early. Only complaint is that it has a lot of body roll when you corner at the limit of adheasion, which I do often in this vehicle when it is empty. Otherwise it is very easy to control at the limit with a good mix of understeer and throttle applied oversteer. |
05 Pathfinder LE - full leather, 3rd row seats, kick a$$ Bose stereo, DVD system blah blah blah - I hate it!

97 Mazda 626, getting old but the radio and the a/c work. No car payments for the last 7 or 8 years on it. I'll probably drive it until it has a major coronary.

2007 Dodge Granad Caravan SXT - best GM product available ;)

Depending upon which one the Wife is driving, I use either the '93 Passat turbo diesel or the 98 F150. They are pretty much opposites.
The Passat I have had for 12 years, it has over 415,000 kilometers and moves along burning 5.75 liters of fuel /100 kilometers. (just shy of 50 mpg) It is alright once you get going, but doesn't accelerate as much as it accumulates velocity. I have put in 11 hour drives in the car and am always pleased. Despite the fact I live in the salt belt, I think I can keep the body together for another couple of years. (fingers crossed) The F150 I have only had for 3 years, but when I got it, it had only 36,000 kilometers, (owned by the proverbial old guy who spent most of his time washing it). The 4.2 V6 with 5 preed will haul the horse trailer up the mountain, but compared to the Passat, it burns twice as much fuel, even when empty. Les |

My daily driver is a '93 Ford Ranger extend cab 4wd but.........four new skins are going on my Fuchs today, and next Thursday my German mistress will get an alignment and corner balance. It has new shocks, couple of new torsion bars, new bushings, new clutch, rack spacers, etc. I suspect the Ranger will be lonely until the rains come in October. |

Beautiful car! Congratulations! |
used to be
http://home.swbell.net/smasraum/pcar...s/DCP_0747.jpg now its the black one in the foreground. Wifey drives the green one in the background. http://home.swbell.net/smasraum/miat...s/IMG_0892.jpg Some day it's going to be one of them other cars again. |
Finally sold the 1995 Nissan 200SX SE-R, which I bought new so long ago. It was a great car for about 11 years. But multiple New England winters were finally showing their toll. So now it's the Porsche for DD duties.

'01 Odyssey and an '04 Matrix XRS. We have 2 kids and all their stuff and friends to haul so the Ody is great for that. The Matrix is fun w/ the same engine as the Lotus Elise and 6 spd plus room to carry a bunch of stuff. It gets good MPG as long as you stay out of throttle, but that can be kinda hard.

This is my daily driver....
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1183047539.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1183047685.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1183047774.jpg It is an absolute blast to drive every day. Fuel consuption in city driving is ridicolous (7-8 mpg) but on the highway at 80-90mph I get 22-24mpg. I bought it 10 weeks ago and put 4k miles on it. On the road there is nothing that can come close to the explosive performance of the car. It has around 400 lb/ft of torque avaliable at 2k rpms. 1st gear tops out at 63mph. 2nd gear at 98mph and 3rd around 140mph. I am not a big fan of forced induction but there not much I can say against this powerplant. The car itself is huge, especially when compared to a 911. It is as wide as a Hummer. The driving position is low and very reclined (reminds me of a formula car). There is enough headroom for tall persons (I am 6'3"). There is no glove compartment or anywhere to even put a cell phone aside a ridicolous net in the passenger's side footwell. 1 cubic foot of trunk space. But it is addictive. I also took it to the race track and it's an incredible machine. It's like a high precision tool that is way beyond my current skills on the track. I love it... |
You have the most bad ass dd on the planet.
Besides my 911 turbo ofcourse....smile. Bill |

My daily driver... MazdaSpeed3
Here's my daily driver... 2007 Mazdaspeed3 with 263HP, 280ft lbs of torque, 6spd manual. 0-60 is less than 6 seconds and it's fun as heck and gets 32mpg!

911teo: Absolutely beautiful!
I have a soft spot for those cars. And to be honest, and I know this is dangerous to say on a Porsche forum, but whenever I saw one of those Carrera GT/Enzo/GT comparisons in a magazine, I always lusted after the Ford. In part, because it is attainable by us mere mortals (ok, us mortals that have been really good!) but also because it was the only car that was not trailered to these tests. :) BB. |
Thanks BB.
I love the fact that you can truly drive it every day. And because it is a Ford you don't get the exotic bills... For example 2 weeks ago I was at a NASA event when the Check Engine Light came on. I decided to drive back and have the dealer check it... Well it is a Saturday afternoon and I drive onto the service dept at the dealre here in Charlotte. In 2 minutes the guy plugs the ODBII sensor and figures that it's misfiring on 1 cyl... In 10 minutes a new coil and plug are installed.... FREE. Pic of my 2 girls playing Mum and Dad.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1183052039.jpg |
I drive a 1961 Baja Bug everyday. It’s a retired SCORE class 5/1600 race car. It’s pretty ridiculous actually… :D
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1183053083.jpg |
Here's mine. Bought it a few years ago with 30K miles. Did refresh the suspension with Eibachs and new dampers, and replace the headliner and sunroof mechanism, but other than that it has been trouble free.

2001 Chevy Silverado, ext-cab, 2wd, 5.3 auto. I bought it to carry the kart and for house projects. As far as trucks go, I guess it's OK, but I'm not a truck person, I don't like driving a truck, it sucks. I can't wait until my kitchen remodel is done so I can push the truck to the back of the garage and get a 996.
