Livi, most of us have had a long time to observe Al Gore(and all the rest of the perennial front runners) and form opinions about them, good, bad or indifferent. The guy is a chameleon just like the rest, and these people thrive on the one on one interview setting, they will pander to any group to get approval. The interviewer is the key, someone sharp and able to form followup questions in their own words, not following the script written by the producer that was probably reviewed by Gore's people ahead of time so as to not offend the man.
I don't know much about Swedish TV or your interview styles, but I do know in the US a lot of that "hardhitting" stuff is completely contrived and scripted. It is just another form of entertainment. We only have a few real news outlets left that are truly independent. It is just another beauty contest, and Al has a chance just like the rest. Go Al. |

In my majority opinion, GW could do a little listening to the people, might do his (and ours for that matter) sorry ass some good. |
Al Gore:
Invented the internet. Loves tobacco but hates tobacco Fear monger regarding global warming, yet has a bigger carbon footprint than my entire neighborhood. OK, he's good for a laugh when he starts talking about the "lock-box" thing. Otherwise, he's a waste of protoplasm. |
I'll never forget him standing at a press conference with Hillary and defending Bill when he was impeached. He looked more than a little uncomfortable but spouted the party (Clinton) line anyway.
Certainly not an alpha male or a leader IMO. Had he been clear in disavowing Clinton's actions and then come down on Republicans for excessive reactions I think he would have won the election. |
I'll defend Al Gore in one area though. Remember the debate with Bush where he kept sighing and groaning under his breath, but audible in the mic? Then Sat. Night Live did a spoof on it and Gore's staffers made him sit down and watch it so he could see how ridiculous he was coming across to people. And then just before the election, Gore and Bush agreed to do a joint appearance on SNL. Both were super sports, Bush intentionally mangling his words more than usual, Gore audibly sighing when Bush spoke, repeating "lockbox" several times. I was howling at that. Gotta give them both props for being such good sports and being able to laugh at themselves.
