When I tell it, it sounds like I'm being really, really picky, but indeed for me, this feature is a must-have...

Like it was said before -- for $500 - $600, the iPhone better do everything you want it to do.
On my old Motorola phone, I could customize my "hot keys" to anything I wanted. My new Samgung doesn't have this feature, so the big button in middle of the phone can only be used to do mobil web-surfing -- which I never do. And I can't turn that button off, so if I accidentally hit that button, I'm connected. Oh joy.
You would think that in this day of "open code Linux" and such, they'd have all software easily conigurable and customizable.... but no...
Wayne: you did the right thing -- you bought the phone, and you are surpised by how it has indeed lived up to the hype. But when an important feature is missing, the best action is to return it.
