Blackberry?

speeder 07-01-2007 12:55 PM

I agree that is a glaring omission, but my Blackberry only beeps once(?) when I get a new message of any kind. It might be adjustable on mine in settings, though. Are you completely sure that it can't be changed in settings?

I have gotten in the habit of checking my device for new messages any time I pick it up after setting it down. You are right that every phone should have a continual reminder, it's a no-brainer.

i would contact them about it......all in all it's just a software issue.....if enough people ***** about it they'll probably include it in a software update.

kstar 07-01-2007 01:26 PM

Firmware updates already happening and there will be many more various updates in the immediate future. Seems reasonable to at least give it a bit of time.

You are probably not the only one who needs this feature and it would be a simple fix. The fixes are coming.

Best,

Kurt

Wayne, if this feature is critical to your business needs, then by all means get a device that supports it.
think about it. How many calls /messages will you miss over the next week, month without this feature? if your response time is valuable to your performance, get a device that helps you in this department.
I own a Motorola razor as well, and it beeps every 5 minutes of a missed call. Otherwise I would have to check it manually, and this is a pain. To my clients, it matters whether I respond to them in 1/2 hr or in 1/2 a day... without this "beep feature", i think the latter would occur more often.

moral of the story: a cell phone is more than just a fancy touch-screen navigation...i would wait until Apple puts features in thier phones that people want, like being able to categorize contacts.
In my Razr, i can store family/friends in a different directory than clients/vendors. i dont want everyone on the same list.

if it's a deal breaker, then it's a deal breaker. Neither of my phones beep over and over (in fact I have them set to vibrate...I don't like ringing phones. I just regularly check my phone...I do it anyway as I don't wear a watch.

I just played with an iPhone at the Apple Store. It is freaking amazing. Makes a WM device look like...a WM device.

Too late to eBay it, big dollars are already gone, now you have to settle for a loss or breaking even.

Joeaksa 07-01-2007 02:06 PM

Totally agree and I use that feature on my Motorola phone, and the past ones I have owned. My life evolves around the cell phone and if the client calls and I miss it, life is not good. The phone beeps until I return or hear it.

Next phone will have it or I will keep the one I have...

alf 07-01-2007 02:16 PM

Send it back, for that amount of money it should do everything you want it to.

BTW, I have seen several very cool not yet released Windows Mobile phones for half the price...

dbrisson 07-01-2007 02:21 PM

While i do not have the same business needs, the total package is so much better than my razr. Especially the ease of the net while on the road (not while driving). Since the message panel is a one touch check is it that bad of a miss?

It will be fixed with he updates and $399 within the next 6-12 months.

Excuse me? Another 6-12 months AND another $400 BUX to make it do what it should have done in the beginning????

Does this thing give blow jobs as well? For this kind of money it better!

stomachmonkey 07-01-2007 03:49 PM

My e62 is a business class phone. Only beeps once. I presonally can't stand the constant reminder feature.

I am never without my phone and make it a habit to check it when I have been out of earshot for a bit.

If anyone has done nothing more than follow the dozen iPhone threads in OT alone you'd quickly figure out the the "must have" features of a phone are all over the place. To expect one device to do it all at any price is just silly.

Don't hold your breath on the price coming down. That has never been Apple's play.

In six months they will release better hardware and keep the pricepoint the same.

That's been their model for years now.

I'll trade for my Motorola. It beeps incessantly! I've threatened to smash it with a hammer, run over it with the car, nuke it in the microwave, etc. I once even resorted to reading the owner's manual and trying to disable it. It just keeps beeping. I may go out and buy an iPhone specifically for that non-feature!!

island911 07-01-2007 06:20 PM

Right... if Lord Jobs decreed the beep unnecessary, then certainly it must be!

Seriously, countless times I've lost track of my phone. If it weren't for that beep (after I've called it) I would be buying quite a few more phones.

Hey Wayne, will the press be there to document the historical first iphone return? ;)

Yeah, had the SLVR before the e62. Beeped constantly. Could not stand it.

To each his own.
