the funny thing is the Looking Glass actually was kind of a hard rock band. Brandy was all studio magic and producer...the rest of their stuff didn't sound anything like it. Recipe for one-hit wonderdom...

from the ship's library computer...

Looking Glass was an American pop music group of the early 1970s that was part of the Jersey Shore sound.

The group was formed in 1969, at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey and consisted of four members:

* Elliot Lurie (lead guitar),
* Lawrence Gonsky (piano),
* Pieter Sweval (bass), and
* Jeff Grob (drums).

Looking Glass had one #1 hit the week of August 26, 1972 with "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" and a minor hit Jimmy loves Mary-anne.

After the official disbanding of Looking Glass in 1974, two of the members went on to form the heavy metal band Starz in 1976.

"Brandy" was famously covered by the rock group Red Hot Chili Peppers, and a recording can be found on their album Live in Hyde Park.

Sounds like the cover of the song done by every bar band in the US. What makes this one so cool?

maestrox eh? Len, I agree 100%! "Flea" does a nice job recreating the original bass line, but again, it sounds like every other scaled-back cover band.

it is cool because:

a) a major band is covering a great tune that I've never heard anyone else do
b) Flea goes way beyond recreating the bass line...he stomps it
c) it's fun and you can see they're having a blast playing it

geez, you guys can be so sour...
