Devil's Analog to the Bible

God has The Bible.

Has the Devil ever dabbled in literature?

notfarnow 07-02-2007 10:42 AM

Service manual for a Renault 5.

Jeff Higgins 07-02-2007 10:49 AM

I heard if you play the White Album backwards...

Dottore 07-02-2007 10:50 AM

Same book. Fine fiction. Neither of them wrote it. One just gets the better press than the other.

sammyg2 07-02-2007 10:54 AM

I've hear that the devil's best trick was to convice people he doesn't exist. Makes sense to me.

Dottore, consider yourself ignored and reported at the same time. you post is intentionally offensive and only meant for flaming and trolling. both are against the rules here.

I think the Devil has better tricks than that, and this trick clearly isn't working (note this thread, and I'm sure he is too), so I wonder why he doesn't at least have a pamphlet or something.

nostatic 07-02-2007 11:00 AM

Funny, but I think that Muslims reading this board might find quite a number of threads "intentionally offensive and only meant for flaming and trolling." Some teachers too. It's all about perspective and POV.

Sorry, I don't see personal attacks here. Have fun but keep it clean...

And you have to play the White Albume *sideways* to get the real message...

Reported? For what? You think god wrote the bible? Get a grip man!

So the devil is french? Or just likes French cars?

sammyg2 07-02-2007 11:10 AM

From the OT rules:
1. No flaming: debates are ok, but responding to threads just to incite or start an argument or conflict is not permitted. (written by Z-man)

I rolled the dice and got nostatic. Stepped on your toes one too many times so now it's personal? SmileWavy

Jim Richards 07-02-2007 11:12 AM

wow, delusions of self-importance. just remember the glass houses thing, after all, you've tossed a pebble or two over the years.

Neilk 07-02-2007 11:12 AM

You're all sexist assuming the devil is a man... we all know she has to be woman.

Jim Richards 07-02-2007 11:13 AM

oh yeah, the blue dress thing, again, eh?

Front wheel drive, longitudinal layout and mid-engined.

A front wheel drive car with trailing throttle oversteer? Surely the work of the devil.

my toes? Nope...I've got quick feet...not personal at all. In life, I always consider the source.

Most people here behave pretty adult, with the occasional romp in nastiness and prodding. My theory is to give people plenty of room to do their thing. This isn't my bully pulpit. I let stuff slide on both sides of the table. If you don't believe that, then I'd offer that you probably can't see the whole table. Believe me, some of the stuff that you have typed here offends me deeply...but I don't edit or lock it. I just let it slide off. You know that some of us are just heathen morons, so why would you care what we said about the devil? Consider the source...

Rick Lee 07-02-2007 11:35 AM

Nostatic, I feel a lot better knowing you've been deeply offended by some stuff here. I try and I try;).

Porsche-O-Phile 07-02-2007 11:39 AM

I think the devil's best trick was writing the bible and his second best trick was convincing people to interpret it literally.

How could I be offended by you Rick, especially after our night in DC.

Oh wait, what happens in DC...

Jim Richards 07-02-2007 11:42 AM

I want it on record that I left early before you guys, well, what you guys do is your own damn business! :p

sammyg2 07-02-2007 01:03 PM

At least Porsche-O-Phile has the sense to post his opinion as his opinion. No problem with that. he has a different opinion than I do, that's fine. That's what makes the world go around.

But when someone posts an opinion as fact, it is no longer a difference of opinion. It is bait for an argument. When it is taken further than that, it becomes an attack on something others hold dear. Then it becomes personal.

Just for ther record, I've made several posts on this board about muslim extremist radicals. Never, ever have I intentionally said anything negative against the religion of Islam. In fact much of what is in the old testiment is also in the koran. They are very close to one another, just from opposite points of view.

I have often talked negatively about the extremists calling them murdering, vicious sub-human animals.
Based on their behavior (blowing up busses, killing innocent people, calling for the extermination of jews, etc) I don't believe a retraction is warranted.
It isn't their religion, it is how they interpret it and act upon it that i have a problem with.

Edit: thank you Todd.

This isn't an argument, it's just contradiction!

"That's it. Good morning!"

"Wait! That was never five minutes just then."

I found this amusing, but not necessarily inaccurate. Pretty sure God didn't pick up a Cross pen and start writing, unless someone can prove otherwise. I don't think it's baiting or flaming in any shape or form either. You're on the web...it's tough to be sensitive in this arena.

We know you are trying at times but still love you...

David McLaughlin 07-02-2007 01:59 PM

God wrote the 1st two 10 Commandment tablets himself. The Evil One inspired many writings but I doubt ever did any actual writing himself.

sammyg2 07-02-2007 02:32 PM

Those who believe in the bible and it's teachings are taught that the bible is God's word. Most of them would also consider an insult to the bible a direct insult to God. They normally don't blow anything up when that happens though. They might get annoyed, they might get offended, but that is usually the extent of it.

Did men put the Bible on paper? Yep.
Did God dictate his word to man in some form of spiritual communication? I believe the answer is yes.

Many books in the new testament are letters from Apostles. While they were guided by God I think it would be safe to say they were doing the writing, the amount of influence is debatable. Was God guiding their hands or putting words in their mouths? In a way, yes. They were repeating God's word and spreading God's teachings through Jesus, if you believe.

M.D. Holloway 07-02-2007 02:36 PM

Some say that it was titled ‘Of Darkness and Light’ .It goes on to expose and predict church, government, and royal corruptions. Less on the conspiracy and heavy on how the various forces use manipulation and psychology to influence and persuade. Been out of print for a very very long time (over 200 years). There was a copy in the rare books lib at Yale but it went missing and there is now no record of it. Hmmmm.

I wouldn’t mind getting a copy for our marketing department!

With all due respect to the believers out there, just about every religion's holy book is said to be the word of their god and they all believe the others are 100% wrong, if not evil. The Mormons believe all their craziness was handed down by God through Joseph Smith AND it all happened in the age of the printing press, so it probably hasn't gotten too lost in translation yet. Doesn't make it any more true or false than the others.
