Epitaph for an Airdale

Yesterday mornining at 8:30 AM I put my Airdale, Misty to sleep. She was 12 years 2 months and 10 days old..4/18/95- 6/28/07.

I came home Wednesday night to be greeted by a wagging tail. She was fine, dancing around, I had to take the trash out so I opened the door and let her run to visit the neighbors houses, as she was running out she tripped and fell got up and continued on her way, she heard a firecracker go off and quickly came back. In was in that moment that I noticed a complete change she just started standing there with her tail down. I thought she had hurt herself when she tripped. So I rubbed her back legs etc, but that had no effect. I just couldn't stand to see her in so much pain so I took her to the Emergency Vet. They ran some tests and came back with the bad news that she had a tumor on her Spleen and possibly her Liver. The tumor had ruptured and was bleeding. The prognoises for treatment was poor and more so with her age.

I suppose in hindsight the signs were there, in the past month or so I had noticed that she was slowing down, and sleeping more. I just basically thought it was her age and boredom, as one day she would mop around and the next day be fine. The Vets told me that it is so common for the Dogs to be fine and show no signs of distress until it is too late.

Goodbye Misty, my Rodent Catcher. I loved you so much.

So sorry to hear - losing a pet really is losing a family member. Sending you some good wishes and strength.

When the time is right, I'm sure there are many at the local shelter that would love to have you as a companion.

With a 13 year old Golden Retriever, I know my day is coming too. She's as sweet and loyal as an animal can be. Stood by and saw all 3 children born and grow into real people. She had a minor seizure the other day, first and only time ever. A sign of things to come I fear.

Tabs....sorry to hear of your painful loss. You gave her a better life than most dogs ever get. You should feel good about that.

Sorry Tabs, I know how much you love your dogs.

If it's of any consolation, I'm sure Misty couldn't have had a better owner or a happier life.

My condolences. I know how this is. Mine just passed a few weeks back and she was very young. It was complications of being spayed.

Remember the good times, the smile, the wagging tail. I'm sure she loved you and knew that she was loved and that's the important part.

I'm sorry to hear that Tabs. I know it hasn't been too long since you lost George too, so I know this is REALLY tough. I'm going to give my 14 yr. old lab an extra hug when I get home...

Tabs, I'm sorry...pets are indeed members of the family. Actually loved MORE than "some" members of the family...

Losing a dog wouldn't be so bad if it didn't hurt so damn much.
Sorry to hear about your sweet baby girl, Tabs.

Sorry to hear about that Tabs. I still remember the pain I feel every time I lose a best friend like that. She'll be waiting at the bridge.
