Any Boston Red Sox Fans?
Just wanted to announce that Jacoby Ellsbury, the pride of Madras, Oregon made his debut in the bigs last night...playing center field for the Red Sox...his second at bat resulted in a hit.
Sox fans, keep your eyes on this 23 year old kid from the sticks. I think he's gonna be a good one! ![]()

GO Yankees!
(just kidding, not an eastCoaster, but since I grew up hating the Celtics I felt my old passions coming out)...

Big Sox fan here. Can't wait for the second half of this season - gonna' be great.
As a point of interest, the lines out of Vegas the other day when I was there: To win the World Series - payouts: Red Sox - 2:5 Yankees - 1:7 I think Detroit was 1:6 CJFusco is a huge Sox fan - I'm sure he'll speak up if he sees this.

A year ago at this time, Jacoby was celebrating a world series win...College world series. He was on the Beavers team that won it all in 06'...He probably enjoys knowing that the Beavers won it all again in '07.
He had some first game jitters...but hey, it's not every day a player plays in his first major league game, is it? That only happens once. The paper here reported that he was given a standing O after his hit. I can only imagine the excitement he had to be feeling...

I thought Boston was a decent team this year.
![]() I really don't care for baseball, but the news is reporting that Texas took 2 of 3 from the Red Sox. My understanding must be way off, they must suck pretty bad this year.

That first at bat was precious !
Check swing out of his shoes, ball dribbles in front of the plate and he's tagged out. Classic ! Coach ruffles his hair in the dugout. Like a Norman Rockwell painting. Comes back and gets a hit and a standing O. Priceless ! I think pwd72s has got your kid beat Ernie. Right Paul ?

As always, it always comes down to pitching - those with a few good openers, a few good closers, know how to platoon and have health on their side will win the pennent. Those with all that plus a few sticks and big hearts win series...

To answer previous questions, the Red Sox currently have the best record in baseball, despite losing 5 of their last 6 games. This is only their 2nd notable losing streak this year.
Even with the current streak, the Red Sox have won about 20 more games than they have lost. Compare this to the Yankees, who have currently lost more games than they have won. The Red Sox have a 10.5 game lead over Toronto in their division, and a 11-game lead over the Yankees. No, the Red Sox do not suck. They are not playing particularly well right now, but there are no big red flags that have fans worrying; they've lost the last couple games by one run, and against good pitching.

Paul He got it in Dunedin this spring when the Sox played the Jays. Jacoby was there with the prospects. BTW I have enjoyed your posts lately re: Ron and John. Regards -ernie

![]() Paul; The Red Sox invited him down for spring training. Told him there was no way he would make the team but to go out and have fun. He must REALLY be having fun now - awful nervous by the looks of his play the last two nights but that is to be expected. The rest of the team has no excuse !

Jacoby Ellsbury - heard he plays good defense too...
Haven't seen too much of him - how's the arm? Not compared to Judas...I mean Damon, but in general...

He's replacing Coco Crisp right now..Coco out with a bad thumb. Coco better heal fast, because if Jacoby gets over the rookie jitters....

Paul, I am a baseball fan, not particualrly a Red Sox fan or an A.L. fan. Actually, a diehard Dodgers fan.
But do you know this kid? What is your particular interest in him, if any? I am ALL for the success of an emerging young player. More power the kids, especially the relatively few without a 'tude. I always thought if I WERE an A.L. fan it would be for the Red Sox; at least before they won the Series. Somehow it was easier to care about them then!
