I had one of those cars at one time...the maintence & repairs ate me out of house and home. I was always spending money on repairs, I got real tired of it when by comparison I hardly spent/spend any money on my Ford F150.

But R-R will tell you that their automobiles do not break down (according to a friend who owned two of them)

That's heavy metal. Not for the budget conscious.

Your friend is right! I believe the correct term is "fails to proceed"...

Those that own RRs do not worry about such matters = those that own used RRs do...

Exactly - A Rolls-Royce never breaks down, it fails to proceed. I owned a '66 Silver Shadow for a few years, and will likely own another (black with tan interior, pre-1974, preferably 66-67). Like any old car, the trick is to find one that's been well cared-for, and continue maintaining it. Keeping an old Rolls on the road is no more expensive than an out-of-warranty 7-series or S-class; easier, since I was able to do a lot of the work myself. There are lots of crappy RRs out there because lots of people buy them cheap and don't take care of them.

People always worry about the Flying Lady hood ornament (Officially named "The Spirit of Ecstasy") getting stolen, but I parked my car on the street the entire time I owned mine and never had a problem (except fingerprints from people peering in the windows).

Here's something crazy: a link to my previous car. I bought it for $7000 in 2001, sold it in 2004 for $2000 after it was t-boned at a red light. The guy that bought it from me fixed the body, painted it and re-dyed the interior, then sold it at auction for $15k early last year when he retired to Australia. That buyer sold it at auction for $18k last November. Now these guys are asking $45k! (No standard Silver Shadow is worth that, period). Especially not this "3-owner" example (according to the records, I was the 3rd owner 6 years ago, and that was iffy).
