While I agree Hippies suck, Ole Ted isn't exactly the best role model for impressionable youth.

I don't think impressionable youth today know Ted Nugent from Ted Bundy or Ted Kennedy. He is 2nd or 3rd tier rocker from the '70s whose only relevence now is to give some phony "street cred" to the loony right.
BTW, I have no problem with what Nugent (or Clinton or others) did to avoid the draft. I respect those who chose to serve, then and now, but conscription is a form of enslavement and those not wishing to hand their bodies over to the government are justified, in my view, in taking whatever measures they can to avoid it. Nugent's approach does show a certain panache... Interesting, but not surprising, that Nugent's own personal life seems to display some of the very qualities he excoriates the hippies for promoting.

As of Ted and Courtney, is that all you can get your hands on? Might as well be the National Enquirer. I hope Ted gets an AIDS check. EDIT: I salute you for actually trying to defend something you state (for the 1st time ever may I add...) - did they start approving spine implants in Canada? Oh well, it's the effort that matters.

Reminds me of a Beatles biography I read in which George Harrison commented on the hippy scene in San Francisco. He said how after a concert he sort of inspected the concert hall floor after the crowd had left and couldn't believe the mess they had left behind. He made a visit to the park near the Golden Gate bridge where he was descended upon by a mass of drugged unkempt hippies whereupon he hastely retreated to his limo. He lamented on how little he had in common with his so called constituency in this so called Summer of Love.

Thats funny, because I just read the other day in a good Playboy article about how the Summer of Love gatherings in San Francisco were some of the safest and cleanest events the city had ever seen... until things started to go downhill that is.
Check out the article if you get a chance, it goes into a lot of detail on the subgroups of the SF scene at the time and their interrelationships (hippies, trippers, Sonny Barger and the Oakland Hells Angels, the meth heads, etc etc). The article is about how meth came into the scene and basically tore it all apart, a good read if you can find it.

I think these artists probably got a view of the downhill side. I think if I recall a history channel program on this topic the flower power Summer of Love movement was a good thing until seedier exploitive elements got a hold of it. Maybe the same way a pimp gets a hold of a naive beautiful woman. I think the official end of the era culminated with the stabbing incident at the Stones concert in Alamont.
