Joey Chesnut is the MAN!! Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest!!

Made me wanna hurl but it was fun to watch. I can't imagine eating 5 hot dogs in 12 min. The competitive eating circuit is nuts. Some of the things they eat...
Mayonaise
Chicken wings
Strawberry shortcake
Cheesecake
Pigs feet... yes, I said Pigs feet
Jalapenos
Gyoza... ( had to look that one up ;) )

Kobayashi gave it a good run but fell 66-63. I thought he puked at the end ( instant DQ ) but they did not call it.

Chesnut was an animal!!

120-lb Molly Schuyler. Read up.

From Wiki:

In early 2014, Schuyler broke the 72 ounces (2.0 kg) steak eating world record, having eaten it in 2 minutes and 44 seconds at Sayler's Old Country Kitchen in Portland, Oregon.[11] Schuyler holds a similar May 2014 record at Amarillo's Big Texan Steak Ranch, eating a 72 ounces (2.0 kg) steak with side dishes in 4 minutes 58 seconds and returning for another meal (with a total time of 14 minutes 57 seconds for both meals).[12].......

.......In April 2015, she returned to Big Texan Steak Ranch and ate three 72-oz. steak dinners in 20 minutes. She completed the first meal in a record 4 minutes 18 seconds, beating her own (and the restaurant's) record by 40 seconds.[18] In the same month, she also ate a 55 ounces (1.6 kg) Andy's Hamburger in 2 minutes 12 seconds in Mount Olive, North Carolina.

I find this stuff to be very weird, strange, like in a carnie kind of way.

Per Wikki:

In January 2014, she won Wing Bowl 22 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She ate 363 wings, a Wing Bowl record. The next day, February 1, 2014, she won the IHOP Pancake Bowl, as well as winning the bacon-eating contest at the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival in Des Moines by eating 5 pounds of bacon in 3 minutes.

I'm going to have a virtual heart attack. :p

herr_oberst 07-04-2024 12:04 PM

Good God. I wish I'd never looked. (And it's not her appearance. That doesn't bother me. It's the way she shovels that glop into her pie-hole that caused me to lose my appetite.)

WPOZZZ 07-04-2024 03:14 PM

I wonder if those people let the food digest afterwards, or in the competitive eating parlance, have a reversal of fortune?

DonDavis 07-08-2024 08:16 AM

They typically let it digest. Joey has talked about it being an "interesting couple days afterward" as the body works it's way through processing it all.

2.7RS 07-08-2024 11:56 AM

Damn. You can see pain in their face.

Baz 07-04-2025 02:40 AM

The jaws are back.

Miki Sudo and the women get the Nathan's Famous festivities underway at 10:45 a.m. ET. on ESPN3.

Joey Chestnut and the men take the stage around noon on ESPN2.

This has got to be the STUPIDEST thing to ever be televised since the advent of professional "wrestling"

herr_oberst 07-04-2025 11:40 AM

I agree with rcooled. Just gross on so many levels.

Thus its greatness.

You too, if you’re able, can come up with something stupider and retire in comfort.

In the meantime, Joey is my hero. At my Family Reunion a couple years ago, I failed miserably.

The grandkids love me still.

I totall disagree!

ESPN has cut away from F1 coverage to cover pillow fighting, corn hole, and climbing a slippery slope. Way dumber than competitive eating.

stevej37 07-04-2025 02:49 PM

These are the best hot dogs. Available at Meijers.

I was a judge at our local contest last night.

The winner ate 12..... Lol

.

GH85Carrera 07-04-2025 05:49 PM

Back when I was an active teenager, I had a voracious appetite. I maybe could have eaten 5 hotdogs, but no more. I can't fathom eating at the professional eating levels. It just does not seem possible.

Baz 07-04-2025 06:10 PM

Just finished watching ESPN's "30 for 30" from 2019.......

When we used to hiking/kayaking/camping, I ate 7 hot dogs in one time, sitting around the campfire. I would have eaten more, but we ran out. I was a perfect fall evening in the woods. I couldn’t do it again.

flatbutt 07-04-2025 07:47 PM

A long long time ago I ate 6 slices of pizza while stoned. The next day I thought I was gonna die.

Synchro Joe 07-04-2025 09:07 PM

NEW YORK - Famed competitive eater Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, a native of San Jose, Calif., reclaimed his title Friday at the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest after skipping last year’s gastronomic battle in New York for the coveted Mustard Belt.

The 41-year-old consumed 70 1/2 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, falling short of his 2021 record of 76 wieners and buns. It marked the 17th win in 20 appearances for Chestnut, who now lives in Westfield, Indiana, at the internationally televised competition, which he missed last year over a contract dispute. "I wish I ate a couple more. Sorry guys," a smiling Chestnut told the crowd, many chanting his name. "I’ll be back next year."

I can't imagine eating more than 2 without a barf break. But, come on why is n't this in the Olympics ? 8=)

DonDavis 07-04-2025 10:54 PM

HTF does someone from Santa Cruz criticize something weird?

Thought I was gonna die is merely subjective.

Nuclear Hot Wings (lots) while drinking pitchers of beer at a Rochester wing and pizza place. I was a noob. Next morning went on a 12 hour inventory taking operation at Pfaudler Co. It was 90F. No shorts allowed. Steel toed shoes and I was bleeding out of my you know what.

Tucks or I would have had to have left.

Am I alone in thinking that these people are nuts, this sort of crap can't be good for you and maybe we should find other "sports" to watch and celebrate?

I feel like I've lost five IQ points just responding to this thread... let alone watching the contest...

Sorry to intrude upon your celebration.

I didn't say that a nationally-televised celebration of gluttony was weird...I said it was stupid. There's a difference...

Not at all...they ARE nuts!

"The 41-year-old consumed 70 1/2 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes". And this is something for Mr. Chestnut to be proud of

GH85Carrera 07-05-2025 06:30 PM

Joey is a amateur compared to this chick.

https://kfor.com/news/watch-woman-break-big-texan-72-oz-steak-record-eats-3-steaks-in-20-minutes-flat/

At the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, Texas, Molly Schuyler, weighing in at 124 pounds, ate not one, not two but three 72 oz. steaks in 20 minutes flat. Not only did she scarf down the steaks, but she also ate three baked potatoes, three side salads, three rolls and three shrimp cocktails.

Few people can eat one of those meals in one hour. Three in 20 minutes!

She ate the first one in 4:18. She did slow down a bit for the next two. Just crazy.

Baz 07-05-2025 07:02 PM

Eating contests have been taking place across our country for decades. Many at county and state fairs.

This one in particular since the 70's.

It's a July 4th tradition that many in this country (and elsewhere) look forward to. I personally considerate it part of celebrating our country's birthday.

Certainly not everyone's "cup of tea" - but no need to dump on it just because it's not something you can appreciate.

I recall that it wasn't a voluntary absence last year - he was banned/suspended because of behavior "contrary to big-hotdog's interests."

He had an endorsement deal with a vegan dog maker. Truly conduct unbecoming of a hot-dog warrior, at least in Nathan's mind.

Likely unrelated, our celebrated Nathan's dogs are Chinese. I've no skin in that hot dog though. As a Michigander it's Koegel's and Vienna for me.
