I'm not an Al Gore fan by any means, but you can't blame him for the actions of his son. I've known several sets of really great parents that end up with lousy kids.

I'm in the same frame of mind...even though the AG the III gig is not one I would want.

people should be charged by how fast they're going vs how fast the car can go

a car that tops out @100 mph and the driver is going 90 should be charged more than a guy going 100 mph in a 180 mph car

glad that he did not hurt anyone.

glad that he got busted....I hope it gets him to admit that he needs help, and that it's his fault.

no offence, but that's just bull doodoo

100 mph is 100 mph, no matter what the car

your idea of justice would be perfect for rich poofs with Veyron's, CGT's Mclarn SLR's Enzo's and what not

"i can do 100mph, cause my car does 200 mph, so it's better then that poor schmuck in his econobox that can only do 100 mph"

speet limit is speed limit
and every mph above it, is a mph above it, no matter what the car...

Stijm,

Stick to your own country's politics.

100 mph in a car not designed for it is less safe as opposed to a 200 mph car going 100

yes if the area is unsafe for 100 mph it's a mute point.

we have roads here that where deemed safe for 80 mph for a car built in 1957!

and there now given a speed limit of 65?

eeh , Jim

i am making a valid point, that justice, a universal concept btw
should not differentiate between those in expensive cars and those in cheaper cars

the speed limit, is the same for every one, and as such so should the penalties be for those who break em...

what you suggest would be unfair , since the rich, those who can afford supercars, would be allowed to drive faster for a lower penalty...

next you could argue that some drivers are more capable then others... or... less capable

let's see, Andretti can drive 90 in a Prius, 180 in an Enzo
but you, as , you are not as capable as Andretti, are limited to 70 in a Prius, and 100 in an Enzo

next you could argue , that locals know the local road better the n those from other towns... so the locals can drive faster and the others slower...

etc etc

bit difficult to apply "justice" if it has to be customized

btw, the situation or suggestion you describe, has nothing to do with politics, but to do with moral, and legal justice

the same principles apply in my own country, simply because without these principles, justice doesn't work...and without justice, thing would be a bit chaotic...

Stijn is right on. It doesn't matter what country's politics are involved. 100 mph is unsafe in a 50 mph zone no matter how fast the car will go.

Sheesh. Is this really debatable???

Seems as if someone is advocating a multi layered justice system. Isn't there already something like that being discussed on another thread?

Agree, somewhat. The kid's an adult, and should stand up for his own actions. But if I had a kid that wound up like that, as a parent, I would feel that I had failed my child, myself, and society.

If I were Gore's kid, I'd do drugs too.

Next time, put them in the
"lock...
...box."

I drive a $4,000 car - and would have no second thoughts about it being perfectly safe to drive on the interstates at 100MPH. Just so long as the car is in proper mechanical order.(which it is) It doesn't take a gilzillion dollars to get a car that is safe at speed - it just has to be designed for it.

Now at night - I live in an area with lots of wild animals, and I do not - DO NOT drive fast - often under the speed limit in some areas I know are prolific with deer. Saved me once when one bolted from the behind a house close to the road, I was only going 30MPH - and was able to avoid it at that speed - 45MPH, we'd of hit.

I do not get how some are so obsessed over how terrible "90MPH" is. Hello? Do you realize how freak'n fast the surface of the earth is moving around its center? Or around the sun? If speed killed - we'd all be dead now...Relative to other objects, we are hurtling at speeds beyond our comprehension.

Back in the early days of trains, people thought going 55MPH wasn't something humans where meant to do. Perhaps your head would explode with such speed! now most drivers do it on a daily basis. I think its time we did rework our speed limits - but first, I'd want to be sure drivers understood how to drive their car.

You probably confuse viruses and popup windows, that would not surprise me...
