The Apple web site is down right now...I guess being too popular is not always a good thing, LOL.
I would like to handle an iPhone in person before passing final judgement, but my armchair opinion is that the size, durability and lack of tactile keyboard would be showstoppers for me.

Best, Kurt edit: You did note my disclaimer in my original post, no? ![]() P.S.: Rumors are that 1M+ iPhones have already been activated. We'll see when official news hits. So far, a remarkable device and probably an historic product launch. Last edited by kstar; 07-09-2007 at 11:30 PM.. |

I still have a pay as you go phone that I spend roughly $20 on my bill every two or three months. I call people and they answer, it rings and I answer it.
Can't see an advantage to owning a $600+ phone that does the same thing. Then again I don't have to check my email while driving to work or, listen to music on my phone, or watch movies on my phone, or take pictures with my phone, or have a touch screen to dial #'s. ![]()

This is a great thing. The 3G version will be killer. It is really a laptop you can put in your jeans pocket.
My wife an I just got back from a long weekend in London to see a concert. Took a chance and just brought the iPhone and no laptop. It is a wonder. Type in a street/post code in SoHo at 3AM because everyone you've asked is too drunk or doesn't know much English (in England!), and find that you're walking the wrong direction from the dance bar. Get a map of Twickenham so you can find your way from the pub to the rugby stadium. Call the restaurant you found by typing it in in Google and punching the phone #. Get photos of your daughter at summer camp in Northern Wisconsin while at the Admirals club in London during a rain delay. Get a call that the daughter of a friend is on the same plane home after studying in Italy for 5 weeks and call her to meet up/give her a ride home. All from a laptop that fits in your pocket. It isn't that it's new, exactly. everything it does has been done before. But never together, and never so well. I will buy the 3G version the day it is released. My 10 year old had to try a dial phone a few weeks ago. She was surprised by how long it took....and the pain in the *** it was if you mis-dialed a number.
Tabs, I know you're just mad because your iPhones on Ebay are upside down financially ![]() But seriously. This isn't the Second Coming. But my 5 year old can find albums and "flip" them over for songs and a few other things, and those of us with 911's - those of us who appreciate fine mechanical engineering - must admit that these things have some fine electrical/computer engineering behind them. For the way they connect you to the world, to everywhere else on earth, an encyclopedia of knowledge, they are marvels - the promise of the internet even more personally than before. They don't replace a beautiful sunset walk in Hawaii, or add to your romantic feelings on your wedding day, or teach you more philosophy than a good camping spot on the John Muir Trail. But they are miraculous nevertheless. Last edited by RKC; 07-10-2007 at 10:18 AM.. |

Seriously, my Daughter really rocks on the iPhone - types quickly and has no problem with the UI after only using the phone for 10 minutes or so. It's day three for me and my touch typing is improving quickly. Best, Kurt |
