how many people actually need to drive small cars on a daily basis

my daily gets 17.5 mpg on biodiesel, is reliable, carries 4 people, tons of gear/tools in the 8 foot long bed, and regularly tows loads of 2000-7000 lbs. (lawn equipment, tractor, raw materials, dirt, lumber, etc)

as long as folks have the freedom to drive cars and trucks they don't NEED, but want, I don't mind seeing gasoline prices go to the moon.

I averaged around 20 gallons a week driving the Grand Cherokee every day to work and school(averages around 20 mpg). Then on the weekends probably half a tank in the Carrera. If we go to the lake that is an extra $75 for the boat and 1/2 tank for the Jeep to get the boat to the lake and back or about $100 in gas for a day at the lake.

My newest weapon at the pumps is a 1982 Mercedes turbo diesel. I am getting almost 30 mpg in town and for the first time I didn't buy any gas last week and still have almost 1/2 tank in the Benz. New tires this week and fix the a/c and the Jeep is going to be saved for boat and kayak duty. Plus the Benz is another project for me to waste countless hours on and something to throw money I don't have at but just think of all the gas I am saving:D

1972 Hodaka Wombat = 120 MPG (NOT A MISPRINT, YES, ONE HUNDRED TWENTY MILES PER GALLON)

My wife's Toyota Camry stays mostly at home, and we probably only use 3 to 5 gallons per week. My F350 PSD is another story. I usually drive it about 80 (40 miles each way to the construction site at 3500 ft. elevation) miles a day. For a big truck, it's not bad though. It gets between 15 & 16 mpg. On long trips where it's traveling mostly on the flat at 2K rpm on cruise control, it gets between 18.24 & 19.4. I was pretty amazed when I first found that out. We have made a conscious attempt to consolidate shopping & other kinds of trips on a daily basis to minimize fuel & gas usage.

Between my Silverado and the wife's car, about 40 gallons a week.

The wife and I both have motorcycles and we both have good intentions of riding them to work, but rarely ever do :(.

My 3500 Ram diesel gets about 17mpg on the average commute in stop and go traffic. On the highway if I nurse it, I have squeezed 24mpg out of it. I have a Gale Banks programmer which helps out alot. I get alot of flack from my tree hugger friends for driving a big truck, but it probably gets better milage than half the cars they drive. My Bronco on the other hand has been gathering dust in the driveway.( Single digits and low teens):eek:

he has already managed to change the perception and mind set of SOME people to the point where driving a large vehicle will soon be no longer socially acceptable. Then guess what will be next? Two seat sports cars, probably. Our little porsches will soon be irresponsible, anti-social monstrocities and will have no one to blame but ourselves for allowing a moron to tell us how to think. We (not me actually) will listen to his lies until they start to sound real.
These little cars will soon be either outlawed or nearly worthless. Reminds me of the muscle cars in the mid 70's. You couldn't give them away, no one wanted one. See a trend here?

I don't NEED to drive a full sized truck, I WANT to drive a full sized truck. I paid for it, I pay for the gas, it's my business. It also puts out a very small fraction of the polution your porsche does, even if I drive a lot more miles in the truck.

you do not need a polluting, 29 year old impractical sports car. You should sell it or scrap it. ;)

I just got back from a round trip to Montreal. 1400 miles including a few runs around town. Used 34 gallons of vegetable oil & 1/2 gallon of diesel. Spent more $$ on fresh cashews than on fuel.

Good point. A hippie kinda fellah I know was spouting off about how selfish SUV drivers are, destroying the earth etc etc...

I pointed out that his '76 VW van, with a scabbed on weber carb in place of the original fuel injection, probably pollutes twice as much as an Escalade.

We all make our choices. Judging what OTHER people are doing is WAY easier than doing something ourselves.

I was a greener keener getting to/fro montreal, but used 30 gallons of gas in my old man's '86 Carrera while I was up there.

I don't keep track of the wife's gas usage, but I used 11 gallons last month in the Baja. So about 2.75 gallons a week? :D

My wife uses her truck for business and carries about 500lbs of necessary equipment. She only needs the truck for 20% of her driving but we recently we sold one car (Saturn) and had to use the truck as the only available vehicle.

The truck gets 15mpg and she averages 6000 miles a month, so that's 100 gallons a week! We recently purchased another car that gets nearly 30mpg (Mini Cooper) so that is now down to 50 gallons per week. We're also opening up a facility for her to use so she doesn't have to drive so much.

Some of her clients will still need home visits but by opening the facility our gas usage should be down to 20 gallons or less a week.

I use each vehicle when I have to, That makes it vary from everyday to letting both cars sit for almost a month at a time or all winter in the Porsche's case.

3,000 on the Porsche, 2,000 on the Tracker comes out to 5,000 miles a year or 14 miles a day, or 98 miles a week.

I did not think it was that high, just over 5 gallons a week.:eek:

I'll have to ask my wife what she has been driving mile wise, her Ford Focus gets good gas mileage though.

Between 300 and 500 gallons per week.

My fiancee's dad drives a 07 Yukon XL he maybe uses 3 gallons a week. He lives next door to his work.
