Define: "A Good Citizen"

Shaun @ Tru6 07-10-2007 02:43 PM

Can I reply later tonight? I'm going out to dinner soon and want to provide a good answer.

Parting thought though: we yell and scream about our rights as citizens, whether free speech or guns, but rarely do we talk about responsibilities as citizens. What if you actually had to have Voted in the last national election to buy a gun, or give money to a campaign?

With great Freedom, comes great Responsibility. just a thought, see you later tonight.

This makes no sense at all.

Actually, according to FT himself. He was never a lobbyist. The story was a lie. I guess he now has the potential to be your new BFF.

easier to define what isn't a good citizen, especially with a cab hangover from last night.

In a background check, you have to worry IF you:
Aren't an American citizen
have been an American citizen for less than 1 year
Are on parole
Haven't paid taxes
Haven't paid child support
have ever been convicted of a violent crime

Let me be clear, I'm not saying you can't get a gun if any of these criteria pop up. Just that someone ought to be notified Patriot Act style.

everyone needs to sacrifice something in time of War.

I'm not following you. Pages back you said "Actually, according to FT himself. He was never a lobbyist"

This has nothing to do with Boboli, I am wondering what the heck you're talking about in the above quote.

I'm the one with the hangover. :) Nope. I've said all along that Fred is a lobbyist.

here you go responding to one of your posts. It's Boboli above who thinks FT isn't a lobbyist.

here's my original quote. he quoted it, snipped it, but only part way and then included what you have quoted above as his own thoughts.

I was surprised to see that he thinks Bush is handling Iraq well.

I do wonder why you guys like him so much. No one knows what he stands for. and according to his beautifully scripted web site, he doesn't know what he stands for. but it does read real nice like and he sure has a puuuurty voice.

his candidacy is manufactured. he's a combination of the emperor with no clothes and stone soup. that's the net net on Fred.

Careful, he's using the Chewbacca defense.

lendaddy 07-11-2007 05:23 AM

I apologize Shaun, I got that wrong. The format of Bobolis post made it look like a quote from you and I didn't double check till now. You did NOT say that.

I was wrong. Sorry.

Thanks, much appreciated.

While you know I love a good back and forth, I'm clearly done here and need to get some work done today.

You don't need to be a citizen to buy a gun in a store....legally. You just need a Green Card and no felony record. Tax liens and child support don't show up there either. If you've been convicted of a violent crime, chances are 99.9% you have a felony record and the NICS check would stop the sale. In VA they don't even tell you "no". They lock the store down and call the state police to come get you for even attempting to purchase. Again, none of this stuff applies to criminals and no terrorist wannabe would bother with it either. It's too easy to get guns on the street with no NICS check. In fact, I've probably bought seven handguns on the Internet in the last year or two. All you need to have an FFL fax over a copy of his license. Think that's hard to fake?

Last night during the interview at the Freedom concert FT said he was NOT a lobbyist and the stories were false. This is what HE said and this is what I heared! Back to your regularly scheduled hangover!

Long term Visa holders with a permanent address of 3 months or more are also eligible to purchase firearms. I checked this out for some of my neighbors. They are here for 4-5 years on H visas.

I doubt he'll ever purchase one, but it is legal.

I am not sure what would happen with a student visa.

In Texas, I believe the background check includes a look at child support and violent misdemeaners.

Shaun, I do not know exactly what you were arrested for, and exactly which charge stuck. Are you eligible?

The original Sullivan Act wwas exactly what you have said. You need to be of good character. You can't be an immigrant. You can't be Negro. Etc. The same Sullivan Act is still in effect, but it now basically prevents most ownership of firearms in NY State, without getting the police and a judge to say you can.
