What are You Thankful for this Thanksgiving

Me: My family and friends.

I haven't been on here much in the last three weeks. From the 5-13 of November I was in the hospital. I have Crohn's disease and had a hole open up in my bowels creating an abscess. Absolute pain. Even now that I am home I can't eat food. Get my nutrition from a line in my vein.

So why am I thankful?

For my wife, who almost faints at the sight of blood, would spend hours in my hospital room just to be with me.

For my daughter. Who went to school and told her teacher her daddy was sick and in the hospital. For art class, her teacher had everyone draw me a get well card.

For my friend Greg who knows every year my family goes to Eureka Springs, AR for Thanksgiving. He knew we couldn't go and that I couldn't eat. My wife decided to show "solidarity" and not take my daughter to dinner for TG knowing I would be home alone. Greg graciously invited us over to be at his house for Thanksgiving. A true friend.

Oh and the doctors say I can have jello for Thanksgiving. Not much, but for a guy that hasn't tasted and food or liquids other than water in 3 weeks, it seems like a feast.

My wife and daughter last Thanksgiving:

Health, general happiness and doing well. Things could always be much, much worse and I'm thankful that we've got our lives on-track and finally moving in the right direction after years of struggling. Very thankful.

Oh, and I'm thankful that I can enjoy a few days off in southern California unburdened by the usual crushing traffic! Thanksgiving and Christmas out here are awesome!

Kurt-

As I have gotten older, I've truly begun to see things as you describe.

What I am thankful for is my wife, my family, and my dog. I am also thankful to have a close relationship with the friends I grew up with, even though we are all over the world now.

What flavor Jell-O are you going to have? If it was me, I would be all over grape. So it sounds like although you are in a nasty health predicament, you are at least on the mend, right?

On the mend, but have to wait until another CAT scan next Tuesday to see where I am at.

As for jello, Cherry all the way!

My wife's college roommate had/has Crohn's disease. Not fun. I'm glad to hear you got through this situation. Take care.

A man came across a striking brass rat in an antique store and decided it would look great on his desk. He paid $100 for it but was surprised when the proprietor insisted it was non-returnable. He said, “It’s been returned twice already, and I don’t want to see it again.”
Leaving the store, the man saw a couple of rats scurrying around the corner; several more were near his car. As he drove, rats appeared from the gutters and side streets until he was nearly overwhelmed. In panic, he threw the brass rat over a bridge railing into a river, and witnessed the army of live rats follow it into the depths.
The man hurried back to the store, but the owner cut him short, saying, “Look, I told you there would be no returns.” The man quickly replied, “Oh no, that’s fine. I was just wondering if you had a brass lawyer.”

Happy Thanksgiving Kurt, enjoy your Jello, and get well soon!

For me my family tops the list; my wife, two daughters, four grandchildren, and my brothers and sister who all live in my area. Last December I was diagnosed with polycystic kidney desease. My kidney function is currently below 20% and I'm looking at a transplant or dialysis in the very near future. It changes your perspective a bit on what's important, what you've taken for granted.

Kurt,

Sorry to hear about the illness but hope that you are on the mend.

Am stuck in Berlin right now but thankful for what my health and fortune in this wonderful workd. Also thankful that we are not in Moscow like we were two nights ago! Cold and snow just does not make it anymore!

Get well and have an extra spoonful of Jello when the wife is not looking!

My kids. I'll add my wife and family to that list, too.

Grateful to finally have my first "real" job, at the age of 34.

Sorry to hear about the Crohn's, Kurt. It can be a nasty condition. But judging from this thread that you've started nd your original post, it's good to hear that you some perspective on life. Best wishes.

My apparent good health, wife, kids, my brother down the street, my position in life, considering I didn't have an effing clue what I'd do when I moved from Boston to LA 28 years ago.

+1

You and me both.

Although I miss seeing the family a bit at the holidays (we're the only ones to have "seen the light" and moved west, everyone else is still in N.E.) it's well worth it. I don't miss colds, flu, feeling chilled or cold all the time, short days, raking leaves, shoveling snow or any of that crap one bit. I'm still a bit of a Mass-hole at heart though.

I'll be down the beach tomorrow if anyone calls.

My two month old baby boy just had open heart surgery and it was a success. I never thought I'd look forward to the day when he would finally have the energy to cry. Music to my ears now.
