I think you just end. Nothing after, no consciousness living on, nothing. Your constituent atoms and molecules become part of other things, which I suppose has a metaphysical component, but this bunk about heaven, hell, angels, demons, souls, afterlives and judgment days is. . . well. . . a load of bunk.

OK, if that is the case, did you do bad the last time and came back as what you are here as punishment or did you do good last time and came back as what you are here as a step up?
What do you think you were last time?

Since I am living a pretty good life, I think I did well before, but I still had to come back to either keep improving, or help others. I must have been a monk at some point. Maybe an alchemist too ;).

Saw this at the Sistine Chapel last week - Michelangelo's view of how you get sorted out:

Rise from the left. Angels of the last judgment in the lower middle have the lists - those that lived well (small book), those that did not (large book). Jesus in this painting is pissed off - His mother, Mary, looks away. St. Lawrence and St. Bartholomew are aghast as well. As far as getting to Hell is concerned, Charon has carried the damned souls across the Acheron and is driving them from the boat; some jump out to get the party started. St. Bart is holding a skin which is a self portrait of Michelangelo (I like that). And Mr. Mike's big critic, Biagio da Cesena, gets portrayed as Minos in the lower right hand corner - revenge over almost 500 years. I liked that part about Michelangelo as well. You'll also notice a huge face (skull) as the image. Amazing work. And the church has someone come along and paint over all of the genitalia (As well as knock them off all the statues - somewhere in the Vatican is a box full of statue Junk).

is that Chris Farley sitting up there at the very top??

I think Jeff is right. Before we are born, we don't exist. same true when after we die.

laws of physics give us conservation of mass and energy. given the very special nature of the human condition, I lean toward conservation of the soul and whatever lifeforce, whether unique to one person or interconnected within humanity, exists.

Dante's Inferno started all this hell crap big time. Before that Rome was just feeling out how to maintain fear and guilt.

only the opinion of a parochial school grad
