Snowman, the 5,000 foot alititude must really sap the John Cooper Works Mini S power, because the one I rode in didn't feel anything like a 911 turbo.
I agree Vinny. Bill |
I sympathize, really I do. Notice the fact that I don't currently have anything German or fun, I very recently went through a similar situation.
It's all about priorities. You have a wife and 5 kids. Who comes first? Not to be an ass, but if you are sending your family out in a vehicle that breaks down often, while owning multiple fun cars, I might actually agree with your wife. In this day and age, do you really want your family sitting by the side of the road? You're in a good spot though, as you don't have any payments. Sell the Miata, one Porsche, and keep another as a DD. Use the cash + current Suburban to pick up something newer with less miles. Your wife is happy, as she has a nicer/newer car that she can depend on. You are happy because your wife will shut up, and you still have a fun car to drive. Also, it would appear that you are living on a semi-tight budget. Doing well I might add, the lack of car payments is admirable. Your wife probably resents your expenditures on car parts, and possibly rightly so. My wife rarely took issue with my blowing money on BMW and Porsche parts, but I know it bothered her. Deep down, I never felt good about it either. Spending hundreds of dollars on a car, money I knew could benefit our family, really never sat well with me. My rule, at least in my current spot in life, is that my wife will always have the nice car. Why? Because I would rather be broken down on the side of the road than my wife, 2 year old, and 1 mo old. Not to mention, we need one nice car to depend on when we travel. Does it suck? Of course. I'm a car guy, the money we spent her 2004 Cadillac SRX could have bought a nice G50 Carrera or BMW 540. But that's life, you suck it up and deal with it. I put my family ahead of having cool toys, and drive a 2000 Silverado. Of course, even better is having both. Within a year or two, that should be possible. Then we'll both be happy.:D |
