2012? "End of the World, Dad"!

Man oh man, my 18 year son is about to head off for college and now its, "I decided not to go, because the world is going to end in 2012, and I am going to screw off for the next five years"!!

The 2012 scenario is fascinating, both as a sientist, skeptic, and old hippie!! Put the alledged Myan calendar, NASA official report of expected and increased solar activity predicted for 2011-2012,
Einstein's ("when bee's start disappearing, we are doomed") edict, biblical prophecy, magnetic polar switching, magma displacement, and on and on.......can 2012 be the end?

What the hell, he is going to college next month, and if 2012 is the end, their is nootihng I can do about it!

Any believers out there in this stuff?

Bob

Some say a comet will fall from the sky
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves
Followed by fault lines that cannot sit still
Followed by millions of dumb-founded dip$h!ts

Some say the end is near
Some say we'll see armageddon soon
I certainly hope we will
I sure could use a vacation from this

Stupid $h!t
Silly $h!t
Stupid $h!t

College is one of the best places to meet girls.

If the world is ending, does he want to spend it alone or with a great partner?

And if he has any ideas about going and just goofing off at college; what is his "plan B" if he's wrong about 2012 being the end?

(And you may want to tell him he needs to be "hush-hush" about the "world ending in 2012" -- the girls really don't go for that doomsday scenario stuff.)

Porsche-O-Phile 07-17-2007 06:22 AM

The world was supposed to end on Dec. 31, 1999 too, remember?

There are going to be a lot of disappointed people on the morning of December 22, 2012 when the sun comes up and everything is fine.

Make sure to not get him a Christmas present that year either and to tell him, "well, you thought the world was going to end, why should you have expected one?"

Sunroof 07-17-2007 07:16 AM

Their is a crap load of these kids including my son who have a doomsday attitude and they get stuff from each other. The doomsday 2012 scenario is not short of info and loaded on the internet everywhere. Hence.......drink, play and to hell with college!! HE will go to school as planned......so I have to de-program this stuff somehow to keep his concentration going on his grades. I told him every generation has its "end of the planet" story. I thought "Sputnik" was going to rain down death rays as a kid that night and an invasion from Mars was to follow............

I would have enjoyed that.................

Make a bet with him.

If he is right, you will pay him $5000.

If he is wrong, you get all of his stuff and he is your slave for life.

Bingo! Who knows when it will end but not preparing for the future will hurt only one person... him.

cairns 07-17-2007 08:17 AM

He's wrong. The killer bees will have attacked and wiped us out long before then.

It will all pass over once he sees the skirts in his first class! Could capitalize on the whole damn thing and come up with some great pick up lines. Now that should be motivation enough to keep it going. Lucky kid, I wished I was starting college over again at his age.

....and this to shall pass.........

;)

this is true and the 3 years after college.

72doug2,2S 07-17-2007 09:13 AM

Tell him just to take 15 hr.s and schedule all classes after lunch. That will get him in. I can't think of any better time in my life (carefree, relaxed, no responsibilities). Did you mention girls?

And no, no one will know the final hour.

There is no better 5 year plan for "screwing" and "screwing off" than college :)

ps: Don't flunk out and abort the plan...

bigchillcar 07-17-2007 09:33 AM

Unfortunately far too many people do not realize this. Its not worth worrying about anyway, you cannot change or modify this.

Live life the way you should, do the best you can and He will take care of you.

Lets Party like it is 2012...

Porsche-O-Phile 07-17-2007 12:20 PM

MUST you drag religion into this? Sheesh. Believe what you want I guess, but there are those among us (most of us, probably) that think the biblical interpretation of the "end of days" is rubbish.

I think the "world" ending isn't so much the death of reality or Armageddon as it is simply the collapse of the human species. Our planet and other life forms on it will outlive us.

It makes for a great story and good drunken reading though.

MRM 07-17-2007 12:42 PM

Is there some basis behind the theory that 2112 is going to be the end of the world other than the Rush album and the coincidece of reading the same forward and backward?

I'm willing to go along with the 2112 prediction, but I need some more details. What if 2112 is the preordained end of the world and we are measuring time by the wrong calendar? Or what if we started the current calendar with year 1 AD when it should have been 3 or 5 AD? No one is really sure which year the real 0 AD should have been. Does the 2112 prediction take leap years into consideration? Are years the same length now as then? Inquiring minds need to know!

mattdavis11 07-17-2007 12:58 PM

MRM, don't forget about time zones! There might be some benefit, say a couple extra hours.:D

Sunroof 07-17-2007 01:00 PM

Actually MRM its 2012!! If you go to the net and look up 2012, their must be a couple hundred blogs. It is interesting reading especially the tie-ins on the NASA sites, the big deal over the Myan calender, add depletion of the magnetic poles, core magma deceleration, pole reversal, add a dash of biblical prophecy (only 12 pope's predicted), toss in Einstein's bees, USA, New York Times articles and now a kids cartoon series coming out to soften the blow and you have the end of the world!!!!! Oh, I forgot the trillions hidden by the Pentagon to build underground shelters, the folks advising you to blow your limits now on your credit cards on the net and a plethera of data, data, data and you have in the end the destructionof the earth through storms, tsunami's, flood's, earthquakes and a wonderful long lasting nuclear winter!!!! Heck, forgot the asteroids!!!!

Gee, and as a kid all I had to worry about was if my dad was going to build that fall-out shelter in our basement with plans presented by LOOK and LIFE magazines!!!

Entertaining stuff............

Dec 22, 2012 is a once in 20,000 year event when all the Planets, Sun line up with the center of the Galaxy. The Mayan calander is accurate down to seconds over thousands of years. It predicted the arrival of Cortes to the week. The Mayan calendar is broken down into 500 year blocks of time. We are in the last of their blocks of time with nothing predicted for after 2012.

Porsche-O-Phile 07-17-2007 01:30 PM

Just means nothing of significance will happen after then. No biggie. Nothing of real significance seems to really happen now either.

John Titor said that 2012 is the year that everyone will launch NUKES and what not.

It will be something like this: http://www.endofworld.net/

Anyway, I hope the world does end in 2012.

slakjaw 07-17-2007 05:12 PM

And now I am off to pop 2112 into the CD player.

Perhaps they simply couldn't be bothered to write anymore after 2012...
As the acncient Mayan leader said;
"That will do lads, if they haven't figured out their own calander by then, well F@#* 'em!"

Porsche-O-Phile 07-17-2007 09:51 PM

WTF mate?

nostatic 07-17-2007 10:44 PM

the world already ended. This is just one big communal acid trip of the collective conscious.

...if they'd just translate that bit on the bottom of the calendar, it probably says "continued on back..." :)

onewhippedpuppy 07-18-2007 04:45 AM

Will we be destroyed by timezone? If so, does that mean I get to watch for a few hours?

bigchillcar 07-18-2007 06:55 AM

you can expect full media coverage, matt. hopefully, geraldo will be live to cover the first timezone.. ;)

Porsche-O-Phile 07-18-2007 08:28 AM

I'll offer to pay for Rosie O'Donnell's one-way ticket to New Zealand just so she can be killed first. Actually let's have Paris Hilton pay for it (she can afford it) and go with her.

At least the rest of us will get 20-something hours of blissful Rosie-free (and Paris-free) existence.

*****, throw the Backstreet Boys in there too.

I'll take some of that action. Could we also include Carrot Top and Al Gore?
