Robin Williams sums it up...

Swearing involved, but you shouldn't be looking at this thread at work anyway ;)

Smoke 'em if you got 'em before watching.

I don't have much patience for people who don't get off their ass and work. But people who get up everyday, and got to work, and do a good job.....I'm not so quick to judge them if I find out they smoke marijuana or enjoy their drink. The nightmares people have lived through never ceases to amaze me.

Of course, people will scoff and what I just said, and proclaim that anyone who drinks or smokes dope has a PROBLEM......then they will go home and swallow some Xanax or Lexapro....total BS.

As long as 'big pharma' sells you your dope, and you get to pick it up at a pharmacy, then its all right.

I think most often it is self-medicating for psychological pain. That goes for booze as well. Then again, we wouldn't want to treat the disease with therapy instead of just dulling the symptoms, would we?

tabs, your mom is calling. how the hell did she get my cell number?

Jeff Alton 07-17-2007 11:50 PM

Well, I have never taken a toke or smoked a cig but do enjoy a beer and a fine glass of wine. So, maybe I should say I have never taken in an ILLEGAL drug into my system.

Not that it matter, I agree, a drug is a drug, be it prescribed or bought on the corner from some low life. However, each of us can chose to live the live we want to. I don't and won't judge people based on the choices they make.

Noah, where in Canada do we pay 17% tax?? In my Province we pay our federal GST and our Provincial tax that comes to a total of 13% on goods purchased. Some things are provincial tax exempt and others are federal tax exempted. Now I do give over 40% of my income to income taxes. But, when my best friend needed cancer treatement to save his life, he did not pay a dime and is now cured. Perfect system? NO, not at all, but it works..........

Anyways, if you need a drug to get through the day, so be it. I am not going to judge. I need drugs to beat my allergies everyday...... :)

Cheers

It's always entertaining to read the people who say, "I've never smoked pot or taken any drugs, but I love having a beer." Ummm....what do you guys think alcohol is? Not a drug?

This is like the people who say, "In Canada there's free health care!" Yeah, what do you think the 17% sales tax in Canada is all about?

One is legal the other isn't and no one ever said alcohol was not a drug, only you.

Ummmmm.... do you understand the difference between legal and illegal.

Jeff Alton spells out the beauty of socialized medicine to you too. In most cases cancer ruins people financially.

I am happy your so easily entertained.

berettafan 07-18-2007 06:16 AM

Robin Williams' piss poor standup is an excellent example of why drugs should be avoided. i was a fan of his, from movies, until i heard his standup. if he wasn't Robin Freakin' Williams nobody would come to his shows.

Birdcage was one hell of a funny movie though!

turbo6bar 07-18-2007 06:17 AM

Perhaps, booze and mary jane should both be legal or both illegal. Both can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

Yes, 70 is legal, 71 is illegal...what's your point about arbitrary laws :)?

austin552 07-18-2007 06:50 AM

Isn't caffeine the biggest legal selling drug today?

I guess that omission tells us a lot about your life experience. That it didn't even occur to you that there are many people that have lived like that?

I drink very little, and honestly? I wouldn't care if it all dried up tomorrow and I don't think I've missed a thing.

exactly. Have not had a sip of anything alcoholic in 12 years (and that was a sip of champagne at my wedding, and hardly any before) never smoked, never wanted to try, don't like the smell..thought or anything pretaining to it...never did any kind of drugs, pot or whatever. I don't even like to take aspirin.

FYI - I have never smoked pot or a cigarette in my life, neither have I touched any drugs.

That said, yes, I enjoy my occasional beer here and there, its almost a prerequisite when I fire up the grill to have a beer handy its almost a utensil.

I meet my brother once in a blue moon for happy hour at the local ale house and catch up with him, especially when we are both really busy.

I come from a long history of flaming alcoholics so I an very careful not to make a habit out of drinking.

What prompted this thread was the other thread about trying some herb that grows naturally and is not illegal yet.

I wondered who would try something like that, who searches for the new high. Is it a drinker? A habitual drug user? A pot smoker?

I was just curious but I see you have already drawn conclusions about me having never met me.

BTW- as far as my "life experience" goes, my wife, the woman I am married to for 18 years, drinks maybe 3 times a year. Probably less than you. We both exercise every day, eat healthy, and live active lifestyles. We rarely eat fast food and try to avoid processed foods. Heavy drinking really does not fit in with this lifestyle.

What also blew me away recently was a good friend that said something in conversation that this person and his/her spouse smoke a joint every night after the kids are put to bed. To be clear, I really do not care if someone smokes or not, I was more surprised because they were both professionals that have a somewhat high profile in the area and I could not understand getting popped for drug possession just to "relax." I really do not care what anyone does for recreation its never bothered me, its bothered me more that you have such a crappy out look on life that you have to find such a negative in such a general poll.

 Whew....cool down man! Nine paragraphs in response? Perhaps someone NEEDS something to chill a bit?

My observation was the lack of a "I-don't-really-use-much-of-anything" option in your poll seemed to reveal that you didn't consider that an option many people would opt for. From that I drew the conclusion you had little experience with that option or people like that. You're right, I don't know you and I drew a conclusion. NEWSFLASH - I don't know ANYONE here personally and few of us do and we ALL draw conclusions from what we write here. I further draw the conclusion (perhaps erroneously) that you were a little high strung when you responded to my post. You may not always be that way but you sound that way here. Its all just opinions Jim. Mine yours, everyone else's...and you know what they say about those, right? And its true. I'll go back to my "milk and cookies" now:D

Noah,
Tell me if I'm wrong but Jim seems a bit touchy on the subject....which leads me to wonder why he posted the subject in the first place?!

You personally attacked me and my lifestlye choices how did you expect me to respond?

Noah,

Your a seagull. I have worked with many seagulls in my life and can spot one a mile away.

I should have used the word Illegal in my explanation.

It must a left coast thing, this taking shots a people to make yourself feel better.

Hand me my old guitar, PASS THE WHISKEY ROUND, want to tell everybody you meet the Candymans in town.

The above line complements of Robert Hunter.

I saw many more then 100 Grateful Dead shows and in my youth I smoked pot but its been 20 years or close to it. Then I went to college in the 1980’s and until Len Bias passed away coke was pretty popular and I tried some of that along with some X which was all the rage too. But since those days alcohol has been my “drug” of choice.

"personally attacked you" uh......no. What I said was your lack of a poll choice for non-users of pretty much anything said something about your life experience. THAT was not an a personal attack.

This is: Jim, You're looney on ths one.

This is a discussion board. We "voice" opinions, we argue about those opinions, we draw conclusions about others from what they write and a lot of times from what they leave out in their writings. I did not and would not "attack" anyone. I've got a LOT bigger problem with some of the biggoted opinons and down right crazy talk that goes one here on other threads. If I was going to "attack" anyone, it would be some of the guys on those threads. But I don't. I NEVER do. Chill dude.

No worries Dan and Noah.

I am just getting tired of the rudeness on here lately.

Time for a break.
