Why are the following people famous?

Carrot Top - I get mad just looking at his photo on the billboards in Vegas.

Rosie O'Donnel - I thought you had to have brains, beauty or talent, but she has none of them.

Paris Hilton - What is she good at besides getting paparazzi to show up?

Who else is worthless?

sketchers356 07-18-2007 11:18 AM

Politicians.

89911 07-18-2007 11:27 AM

Rick I agree with all your choices. Some more:

Tom Cruise
Kirste Alley
John Travolta (see a pattern?)
Rachel Ray
(Anyone that has ever appeared on the cover of People)
Ryan Seacrest
David Blaine
Anyone on "The View"
Joe Theisman
Paula Abdul

Theres got to be more, but I have purposely purged many of them from my mind.

Rick Lee 07-18-2007 11:29 AM

No way. Tom Cruise is a good actor and has some good movies under his belt. John Travolta's perf. in Grease absolves him of ever having to do something good again in my book. I know why Kirsty Alley WAS famous 20 yrs. ago. But I have no idea why she's still famous. She was never hot, her husband hasn't done anything since the Hardy Boys and she's a hog.

89911 07-18-2007 11:36 AM

I guess it took it to another level, famous people I can't stand. I can't watch another Cruise movie anymore and Travolta had one good film "Pulp Fiction" and since that, NADA. Now he's playing a fat lady in "Hairspray". Hilarioushttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/pukeface.gif

Rick Lee 07-18-2007 11:38 AM

Oh, there are plenty of famous people I can't stand like Barbra Streisand or Alec Baldwin. But it's very clear as to why they're famous. I'm talking about the real talentless, annoying idiots you can't seem to avoid on tv.

onewhippedpuppy 07-18-2007 11:48 AM

Because America as a whole is stupid, and pays attention to such idiots. I could give a rat's ass about Paris, but considering the coverage she gets, obviously someone cares. Are we that desperate for an escape from our daily lives?

If we could get Rick's list and all of D.C. on a ship and sink it, we'd all be better off. Now how can we arrange that?

Rick Lee 07-18-2007 11:50 AM

I'll be out of DC soon, but wait until then. I want to watch it sink.

Jim Richards 07-18-2007 11:52 AM

easy boy, or you may not make it outta here. :D

mschuep 07-18-2007 11:53 AM

I can't stand the spokeswoman for the sleepnumber bed...can't recall her name right now.

You mean Lindsay Wagner? OMG, I worshipped her when she was the bionic woman. She's still a smoking MILF. Bite your tongue. And that Asian lady in the same commercial ain't bad either. I'd hit 'em both.

craigster59 07-18-2007 11:59 AM

You forgot Madonna..

Sonic dB 07-18-2007 12:11 PM

Caught Lindsay Wagner on a rerun of the Rockford Files the other
night, I think back from 1974...damn she was smoking in he pre-Bionic
women days.

Kirstie Alley was quite attractive in her roles with Gene Simmons
and Tom Selleck in the early 80s "Runaway"
and also with Tom Berenger, Sidney Pointier and Clancy Brown in the 1988 thriller "Shoot to Kill"

Hummm ....how did that song go? 57 channels and nothing on?

Now I love my cable TV. Just wish I could pick and choose: Speed, History, A&E, HBO, are interesting. But the reason for all the Hollywood celebrities, rich air-head party girls, Sharptons, babbling politicians, etc. is that cable and network channels need SOMETHING to fill the time with, 24 -7! We are inundated with the mundane and simplistic. Ever want to see REAL NEWS, WORLD EVENTS and find that they are broadcasting a car chase in L.A. from a chopper, or agonizing over who was the father of Ms Smith's child!!

I am proud to say I have never spent a moment watching: ANY reality show, Oprah, Dancing with the Stars, (fill in the blank_______).

We are creatures of leisure and we now reap what we have sown.

Kinda odd choice of people to select, almost everyone mentioned is famous because they had the talent to rise above the other millions against whom they compete in their highly competitive give fields (comedy, acting, music, etc.).

They became famous because they worked on their crafts, and against all odds, succeeded. And, almost everyone listed above did it on their own - they all appear to be self made people.

Which seems, to me, to be admirable. You or I may not particularly like their work, but their intended audiences obviously did. That's why they are famous. The market does not lie. Scoreboard, baby.

89911 07-18-2007 12:55 PM

Your joking, right? Paris Hilton? Talent? Did it on their own? Worked on their craft? Self Made???

As far as I'm concerned, most of them are lottery winners that, unfortunately, don't live in a small town in Kansas. Being in the right place, at the right time counts a lot more then talent.

Jim Richards 07-18-2007 12:58 PM

she's a self made skank, and good at it I hear

No, they became famous by virtue of their incredible faults.

Carrottop is not only insanely ugly (and orange), but has built his act on being annoying and stupid. People universally love to hate him.

Rosie is a fat lesbian pig, pure and simple. She flaps her fat lips and says stupid stuff. Really, quite similar to Carrottop.

Paris is a rich, spoiled b!tch. Oh yeah, and a slut with her own sex tape. Her biggest accomplishment was being born to rich parents.

Yeah, but they're the American dream alright, you betcha!
