How much are you drinking these days.

It's not actually me, it's a friend of mine... Well actually it is. My GFs buddy tends to share a bottle of wine most late afternoons with her mom. Her husband gets a bit pissed off with her as he's fairly much a non drinker and dosn't like the way she's a little bit sozzled and in charge of two young kids. My GF said to me she thinks she's got a problem and I said I don't think she has as it's only 1/2 a bottle and it doesn't do any harm other than annoy her husband.

But it's all about how you see a situation. My GF comes from a family that doesn't drink much and I come from a family of big drinkers. My dad had cut down to only 5 litres a day before he died. In fact he had so much alcohol in his body when we cremmated him it took 2 weeks to put out the fire.

I really watch my drinking as I'm the first Douglas in 6 generations of our family not to be an alcoholic. I tend to have one glass of wine with dinner every second evening, and half or three quarters of a bottle on a night out.

I don't have a drinking problem... I drink... I get drunk... no problem.

Ba bump ching!

Sorry too much caffeine... on wait that is another drug... intervention, intervention!

Bill Douglas 07-18-2007 01:28 PM

Ah, an alert drunk. I like that.

Shaun @ Tru6 07-18-2007 01:28 PM

hmmm. having a tough day so I just picked up a pint of Baileys Häagen-Dazs. :)

from your description Bill, and coming from a family with alcoholism, I'd say she might have a problem. Alcoholism is a lot like rust and pre-74 cars. The rust you see on the surface "isn't that bad" but on closer inspection you find that you need all new rockers and floors, longitudinals...basketcase. then you have to decide if it's worth putting in the work.

Probably 2 Bottles of Joseph Phelps Insignia tonight....

Bill, your girlfriend is probably correct. Hubby should keep a close watch on her.

I only had four beers at lunch today. What of it?

You're excused.

Are you talking about a 750ml bottle or a big glass jug? If it's just the little bottle there must be other issues going on. If it's causing family discord I'd have the GF tell the buddy to find another to share with.

not a drop. Not in 22 years.

Where's that doobie?

slodave 07-18-2007 03:28 PM

I'm trying to keep it to one drink a day.

Not enough information.

Crikey, if drinking a half a bottle of wine makes you a drunk, then I'm beyond hope.

many944s 07-18-2007 03:37 PM

Well, let's see... On an average day, I may have nothing to drink, or I may have 3 beers (or a Rangpur Tanqueray and OJ). However on Wednesdays (pool league night) I may have as many as 10 or 12 beers (never mixing beer with any other alcohol)

The key is moderation! (one drink at a time) :)

"When you think you have to control your or anybodys drinking, your/their drinking is probably already out of control" ...There, I said it.

sammyg2 07-18-2007 04:08 PM

These days? Almost nothing. but I kill a few beers on these nights ;)

scottmandue 07-18-2007 04:10 PM

If it is an everyday thing it probably is, or may lead to a problem.

Crap, I made a serious post... can you guys forgive me?

Sonic dB 07-18-2007 04:37 PM

1 or 2 bottles of wine a day
