Does anybody have an extra, legitimate SQL license to give Wayne?
Pelican is getting slower and slower, to the point of being difficult to use. He mentioned that he was having an issue with the MySQL and that the Microsoft version could work better. I know he takes his time testing, (remember how long he was testing that posting button, like 3years! ![]() Maybe we could even help him update the vB software as well.... Am I dreaming? Could this be a pelican team thing? t.

there are lots of free (and Free) databases out there... since the forum is written in php, changing from mysql to postgres or similar should be easy..
Of course, the mysql would probably run better if it weren't on Windows... (one of the bsds or linux come to mind...)

I am fairly sure a MS SQL db could handle the load here fairly easily...
The php stuff, I don't know. I was thinking of the vast resources that are on here and with the good sense of community we seem to have we could tweak this. Right now its Pelican Parts. Let's make it Pelican Turbo Parts... We can poll for the most desired features, etc....

Whoo hoo, Harddrive is from Seattle. I'm terribly sorry to say anything against the glorious Microsoft. I was, in my naivety, going to say Oracle SQL is a good product.

When you do goto vb3 and still need some help, I'm pretty good friends with the guy that handles the SQL aspect of vbulletin.

FYI, all this talk of "this is better than this" is very subjective.
I can show you test-cases that will make any database look better than any other database. I own a company that does high-end database design and distributed performance tuning (largest on-line banking systems in the US and Canada, government, IRS, etc), and it's all about the right tool for the right job, and the proper implementation with the right tool. If the code is ****, it doesn't matter what DB you're using. But yes, certain features are better implemented in some databases than others. It's a matter of figuring out what you need and picking the right tool. MySQL has it's good points, and it's bad points. It's probably the fastest read-only DB on the planet, other than a custom-built DB, but it suffers in other areas. Of course, I'm a huge Oracle fanboy, but that's a whole other topic. |

Surely you knew I was kidding.
zOS is more like using a pile driver on a push-pin. Maybe a move up to a mid-grade server? (Do they still make the AS400?)

Same OS400 / Same DB400 Work with Active Jobs?

Have to disagree on that one, MySQL is (at least) as good as MS SQL, specially for large volume transactions and storage, the algorithms behind the reindex are far superior.
What version of MySQL have you installed? if a db is corrupted does not matter if is MySQL od DB2 on zOS .. first thing is to fix the corruption, think about using MySQL Cluster or to provide some kind of fault tolerance to the db (easily done at the OS level) Quote:
