Well, nothing is going to stop the "arms race" re: street-legal race cars. It's pretty amazing when you consider that a few short years ago it seemed like performance was a thing of the past.
"They don't make 'em like they used to...they make 'em a lot better." And at this level of performance, no one is going to be blowing anyone off the track. Hell, there isn't a civilian in the world who could drive this car near its performance limits. |
I only skimmed the article, but Motor Trend just had an issue that pitted the best performance cars against one another on road and on track - kind of like a USA Today version of what evo magazine does regularly. What I mean by that is Motor Trend's "articles" are about as long as a sidebar in evo, Car, or Top Gear... but no matter.
In any case, unless I misread the article (I admit that I only skimmed it in the drug store), it looks like the top three finishers were the Porsche Turbo, the Porsche GT3, and the Lotus Elise. In other words, no Corvette. This shocked me; not because the Corvette is THAT GOOD, but because it's a pretty well-known fact that the american car magazines are basically held hostage by the Big Three: if R&T, CaD, or MT pans an American car, the company threatens to pull their ads from the magazine. That's why you hardly ever hear a bad thing about, say, Ford or GM from Car and Driver, but you never hear a GOOD thing about Ford or GM from Top Gear. I believe that Stephan Wilkinson and Brock Yates have both attested to this fact. |

650hp, supercharged 6.2 liter LS9 engine. More power and less expensive... but will it corner with the GT2? |
Horsepower is the easiest thing to get on earth, especially since the advent of forced-air induction. Porsche, (and others), have frequently had to reduce their cars' output to make them go faster.
So it's all chassis at this level, Chevy could put 1000 hp in the 'vette and it would not make it faster. If it has a better chassis, that's anther story. I'll believe it when I see it. |
the seats in the new GT2 are simply amazing, work of art, wow !!! :eek:
the car is awesome, I wonder why they used black car instead of white or red in the intro on the website |
Black = ominous, foreboding
Red = played out 80's attention whore White = vanilla |
You guys that knock it are nuts. Far better looking than the turbo, purposeful, a bit DTM looking, without being too much. It looks exactly like what it is: fast and mean as hell. I hate the flash site though, slooooooow.

I just thought that black was a horrible color 'cause you can't see half of the details on the car |
I still like this car I spotted at a Porsche shop in Raleigh this weekend.

I have to agree, John. The GT3RS has very clean lines.

What amazes me is how many variants of the 911 Porsche can sell, there truly is a car for everyone (everyone that is who can pay Cdn $100k - 200k). I'll take any one, so long as it has a fixed roof...

IIRC, the new GT2 is the fastest "passenger car" to ever lap Nurburgring - even bested the CGT.
Maybe I read "fastest passenger Porsche" but I think it is the former. Not too shabby. Best, Kurt |
