1977 Porsche Turbo For Sale

Here is a 1977 Porsche Turbo with 15,000 orginal miles for sale..looks like she is leaking by the Kitty Litter on the ground...What is it worth? And should I go after it? No time for a PPI as it sells tommorow at noon.

The carpet condition is a useful tool to guage the mileage of a car. Also check the rubber pedals for wear. If they're worn heavily, it's got more than 15,000.

Is this an auction?

Sorry.
There are probably people with far more experienced opinions on this than myself, but judging by the photo it 'appears' to be in good condition externally. If the interior looks as good as you would expect with the mileage, and the mileage is documented in some way then I would expect you to be looking easily in the mid to high teens. However, if the engine checks out and isn't leaking and if there are no other mechanical problems then you could be looking at the upper end of 20's. If you don't feel confident inspecting it yourself see if you can find one a handy Pelican in the area to give it a quick look over with you. You should be able to narrow the price range somewhat after that.
I suppose the bottom line would be something like this;
If you really like it and are prepared to take the risk of it having problems then go for it. You seem to be a very well clued up individual when it comes to calculated risk of purchases.
Good Luck!

Low milage turbos are not always a good thing. The seals dry out and need to be replaced

If it's a '77, then it should be a Turbo Carrera, which had a 3.0L non-intercooled turbo motor, 4-speed trans but the standard 911S brakes. Kind of a niche collectible - the performance wasn't up with the 3.3L Turbo with the 917-derived brakes we all love, but cool in it's own right.

It's also a car that you could drop $10k in maintenance in faster than you can fart.

Depends on the price. As long as it's complete, you can't go too wrong at $7500.

If it leaks, the only way that driving it will stop the leak is if it all leaks out. Don't use that mechanic for anything.

Don't know which trans seal you refer to but $500-700 should be enough to drop the gearbox and replace them all.

could just be the stub axle seals, which are cheap and easy to replace (no need to remove the engine/trans).

$14.5 to my door, with no records, no inspection, and no information other than what's in this thread?

I wouldn't.

At the end of the day, or rather mid-day tomorrow, if you like the car it's you who determines what it's worth to some extent. I don't think your numbers are unreasonable in my opinion.

I stumbled on this this afternoon, and I just HAVE NO TIME to have it checked out....If it is a GOOD? car 12,500 isn't going to do it... Mother says, "Thats what happens when you don't stay on top of whats out there..."

Good sense says too much risk...but the other side says what if it goes CHEAP..and is a GOOD car...OUCH...
