Cash account that earns interest?

Is there such a thing nowadays? The best my bank can do is 0.4%. Where do you stash your cash?

Stash you cash in a "thing" that will appreciate. Or wait for the Fed to move interest rates against inflation.

You could put it into a Treasury Inflation Protected Security (TIPS). Here’s a newsletter article on TIPS. https://www.fidelity.com/learning-center/trading-investing/tips-and-inflation?ccsource=email_weekly_0729S05

Or you could just buy short term US bonds.

Check with your local credit unions. Not sure what amount you’re taking about but we get 3% on our checking, with less than 10k balance and 2% on a standard savings account. Decent for “straight cash homie”.

This.

Our credit union has a program the pays 3.5% right now (Click Checking) on money in my checking account up to 20K. The money above that is just 2%.

I have to use the debit card at least 10 times per month, and do at least one electronic transfer, and pay at least one utility bill electronically. I pay all my bill that way so that is a breeze. The debit card is easy as I use it at the local stores I frequent often and make three purchases in a day. Buy some bananas and apples at one store, beer at the local convenience store and bam, two purchases.

They have had that program in place for years now and I have more money in my checking account than ever in the past.

I keep some of my cash in Kasasa bank. They pay 2% on checking accounts with a debit card on balances up to $25,000, plus 1% on a linked savings account balances up to $50,000. The catch is you must sign up for on-line banking and use the debit card 12 times a month. MrsWD and I each have accounts. We use her debit card until we hit 12 swipes, then switch to mine. We only use the debit cards locally, so it takes a bit of management to get 24 swipes in a month.

This is great! I went to the TFCU web site and didn't see any residence restrictions. Do you know if anyone anywhere can open an account there?

I'm not seeing anything that even comes near 3.5%. Am I on the right site?

It took me to “Tinker” not “Tulsa” - Sorry.
I found it by searching “Click Checking”. I took Glen’s word for the rate. It’s not 3.5 percent there. As far as I can tell it’s 1.25
The “Tulsa FCU” site doesn’t appear to give a rate for checking, so maybe it is 3.5% there? Looks like you have to call them.

This is the web site: https://www.tinkerfcu.org/checking/click-checking/

They used to require some affiliation to the armed services. My dad was an Air Force member and my wife was a member of TFCU before we got married. I think the rules to join are fairly relaxed.

When they started that Click Checking program it was 4% but it dropped after a while. I really don't pay attention to the rate and there are some other things I forgot. Direct deposits and electronic statements.

Just check out https://www.tinkerfcu.org/checking/click-checking/

All the requirements were things I did already, so it was a no effort deal for us.

OK, I jut pulled up my statement. The rate has dropped to just 1.26% currently. The good ol days of the higher rates on the "Click Checking account" are gone with the FED keeping Prime so low.

Still, 1.26% is way better than any CD I can get.

Honestly I don't watch the details that close. I use it for all my personal bills, and pay everything including my yard spraying and all utilities with electronic payments for no charge.

Looks like we are down to 2% in the checking.
