Asphalt motocross, big brass ones....
This starts slow but watch to the end. As cool as it is to watch, I have to say they didn't really think the concept through. The carnage will be brutal.

That is SuperMotard - I seem to recall someone mentioning this a few months back and laughing at the name?

Not really, Supermoto racing is asphalt and dirt, I have never seen jumps OF asphalt.

That is fun to watch! I don't know if carnage will result. They aren't getting anywhere near the air that Supercross riders are getting. An SX rider going 30 feet up and 90 feet out, without major league body armor, seems more nuts than the video you showed. Even though they are landing on dirt, that dirt can be pretty hard.
All the different types of pro level motorcycle racing these days seems nuts to me, they are going to such limits. I like some of the ideas they have in your video, like the choice to go low and inside on the flat, or go long and outside, but with banking to ride on. |

I used to race motocross and the dirt really does help lessen the falls. Not only that it provides a less than positive grip that allows you to slide or float on the surface forgiving mistakes. Imagine your front wheel is slightly turned upon landing, on dirt it will slide (a little) allowing you to correct, on asphalt it's either going to fold under or turn given the positive grip.
I'm just cringing at the thought of the rear stepping out over the whoops...... The old MX adage of "when in doubt gas it" actully worked in that it broke the rear free allowing it to drift or float back in shape.

I think it looks kind of awkward. Almost silly. Looks much more wilder and cooler on dirt, slipping and sliding - and, well, dirty..

I do apologise. Maybe I should have said "That is what I understand to be...". I'd still be wrong but at least I wouldn't be stating it as a fact. Thanks lendaddy! ![]()

The one SuperMoto race I've seen (@ Loudon) was all asphalt, including the jump on the front straight. They just set up a little chicane (to bleed off speed), followed by a set of ramps. But to pave an entire track of banks, jumps, whoop-de-doos...I don't know if that's brilliance or stupidity.

Hell Lendaddy, those arent whoops. They are just gentle humps creating an easy rythym section. Until I just watched the video, I was envisioning sharp nasty supercross whoops. I would love to ride that track with proper leathers. The jump/whoop sections are very gentle and other than collisions with one another, they look totally harmless to me. It would be far more likely to dump it in a turn on pavement than to crash due to those smooth bunny hills. A rutted out supercross jump is way scarier than those smooth predictable humps.
Somehow I am guessing my response will not suprise you all that much ![]() ![]() ![]()

I would guess that going down on pavement sucks whether getting bumped on a smooth rolling hump or after getting bumped in a high speed sweeper. I have never gone down on pavement while wearing "leathers", so I cant comment on how bad that is, but I have gone down on pavement at 55 mph wearing nothing but shorts and tennis shoes and I know for sure that was not fun. (bare skin on your back, elbows, face and palms are no match for pavement!)

Casual ride home one sunny summer day when I was about 19 yr old (mid 1980's) on my 1983 Honda Nighthawk 650. It was one of those 90 deg humid days and I was wearing sunglasses, swim trunks, a watch and van's tennis shoes. I was cruising along a country road a few miles from home riding along with only one hand on the bars. I went across a ditch bridge that crossed under the road at an angle and it had a slight hump where the asphalt was cracked. My bars went into an instant lock to lock headshake and before I knew what hit me, I tumbled then found myself sliding feet first on my heels, elbows and palms. I guess I tried to stand up too soon and flipped once more before coming to a stop. My bike was on the side of the road and I turned off the key then hobbled to the nearest house to call my dad. I was a mess. My dad picked me up and put me in the shower after I refused to go to the hospital for the old wire brush wound cleaning treatment. Dad use to be in hospital administration, so he was an expert in my mind ![]() I was on riding my dirt bike and repairing my streetbike within a couple weeks however. At first the burn is excrutiating, then later the recracking of the scabs when you move is quite unpleasant. A couple of years prior, I had tipped a Honda ATC 250R over backwards at around 50 mph or so (5th gear topped out) on the pavement also. Thankfully I at least was wearing jeans boots and an MX jersey at the time, so while I got some road rash, it was nothing compared to my aforementioned street bike incident. Looking back, I am suprised I did not hit the pavement more often as when I was 15 or so, I used to do standing on the seat fifth gear wheelies up and down our street ('75 KX 250 mx bike) daily wearing shorts and tennis shoes typically ![]() ![]() ![]() I miss those carefree days!

I have never had road rash, but I did go over backward in sixth on my YZ125. That resulted in a very messed up knee and a severe concussion where I lost a days memory and lost my short term memory every 30-40 seconds for hours after the accident. Really neat stuff

![]() ![]() Have you been watching these videos to get pumped up for some spirited rides on the Husaberg? I think about having a road legal MX bike every now and then and even looked around on the net at some conversion kits. No doubt that Husaberg of yours has to be a blast whipping around on the highway!

I actually sold the 'berg last week, times are tight and all. But it is an absolute riot to ride, especially in an urban setting. I've also seen where guys are plating trials bikes for city commuting and that looks really fun as well.
