"The term is derived from the 1960s when Navy sailors (colloquially “squidsâ€) would dock in San Diego, purchase two-stroke motorcycles, and ride them around under the influence of alcohol."
From: http://wordnavigator.com/word/squid I remember riding Ortega Hwy in the early 80s on my Interceptor. The squids and jarheads would show up on their new litre bikes with no helmets or riding gear and kill themselves every weekend. It was nuts. The go fast/beer culture purvasive back in the day was amazing. |
I remember it starting out as "squirley kid" way back when. Seems as though some sportbikers now wear the title with pride, much as the original "1%ers" did. Funny how a derogatory remark or insult turns into a badge of honor in the biker world...

So, I successfully completed the training program and I now have my license. wooohooo..I can now do slow speed 8 figure patterns in a small rectangle, among other things :)
our instructors were excellent and very knowledgeable. boy, riding a motorcycle is an art, a skill, and can take a while to master. it's a great sport. everyone should have training. it's not just about getting on board and twisting the throttle and going fast. thanks to everyone on this board for their wisdom . .. |
That's great news! Now go practice and refine what you've learned (on your bike), ride safe, and stay off Craig's list :)

Good job, on-ramp. You are certainly taking the right approach. Now get out and put some miles on that thing; have some fun. And be careful.
