Funny, I think the aljazerra story is probably more truthful.

Well, he is saying what he believes to be true, if you think about it:

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, told the Iraqi prime minister: "Iran and Iraq both have heavy responsibilities to bring about peace and security in the region. "The situation in the region today, including Iraq, is very sensitive. Tehran considers the future of the region to be dependent on the victory in Iraq." |

I have no doubt that the prime minister told both the Iranian and American Presidents he agreed with them, what is he going to say when he is sitting there?

If he tells either party the wrong thing he is hosed. Either one is unhappy and it makes life worse for him.

I read this yesterday and didn't understand you angle. I came back today and it still doesn't make sense to me. What Bush said seems quite accurate and appropriate. I don't see him telling them to do anything other than want for better. I certainly don't see the "give us your oil" angle. Though I often disagree with you, I generally understand you. What am I missing here?

It doesn't really fly now does it? Surely the average US citizen would laugh hearing that from Ahmadinajad knowing full well our standard of living and personal wealth are multiples greater than theirs. In reverse the Iranian knows full well that Bush is correct but may muse: "At what cost?"

I don't take very much of what Aberjawocky says seriously. The REAL power in Iran lies with the Mullahs and NOT THE GOVT.

Len, you are looking at all of this through your western lense. If you get into the head of the other side, it all makes sense, and you can spin it around and have any administration parrot those words.

Most countries around the world fear imperialism above all else. And we are viewed as an imperialist country. For us to say, "we know best" only fuels that fire. |

We wouldn't have to be globaly"imperialist" if we overhauled our society:

			1. Rezone the urban-sprawl townships to regain farmland and condense populations. Less distance means less fuel necessary for transporting people and materials. Major throughways for passenger and heavy rail would have to be pre-planned. 2. Standardizing and recycling of packaging would save companies money and reduce waste costs. Heavy metal water contamination from electronics/etc. would be reduced, and incrementally reduce medical costs due to improved health. 3. Better building designs and tech-now-logy will reduce heating/cooling usage. One Japanese design uses a rooftop collector and fiber optics cables to put bright daytime light anywhere within a structure. Passive ground loops for ventilation/water systems reduce HVAC demands. Increase building codes for R-values. Build with brick not fiberboard. Whenever I take a midnight drive past a dealership lit up like the sun, I think that we could do better.
