I guess I see the world a little differently. I think that each and every person has innate loving kindness, and that the human tendency is actually positive if given half a chance. That is one of the problems I have with organized Christianity (and Islam, and...)...the "original sin" essentially says that one is hopelessly flawed unless you choose the God behind door #1.

To "ignore" someone because they challenge your world view is the wrong solution to the right problem imho. Your world view should be challenged. You should be presented with arguments and scenarios that push your sensibilities and make you question your notions. If you are strong of character, there will be no real issue. But having strong moral character is not the same as shutting out those who don't believe as you do. In fact, the stronger one is in their beliefs, the more they should seek out those who disagree.

Jesus didn't surround himself with those that believed as he did. He sought out those that were afflicted and different. And he listened. Similarly Buddha did not accept what others said, but instead experienced life for himself. Then he did not sit and pontificate, but rather encouraged those who sought him out to go find out for themselves. Question and experience.

Live the question.

I learn more talking for 5 minutes with someone I disagree with than I do talking for hours with someone I agree with.

The universe requires an open mind and an open heart. Closing either dooms you to suffering...no matter how many toys you have sitting around you.

svandamme 08-19-2007 12:52 PM

Nostatic, can you tell me what everybody is saying here?

nostatic 08-19-2007 01:23 PM

sorry, my Flemish is a little rusty :p

svandamme 08-19-2007 01:40 PM

french is fine, even german , and if need be, i'll be able to work it out if in spanish or portuguese, just takes me half an hour longer...

nostatic 08-19-2007 02:00 PM

leider fürchten viele Leute die, die unterschiedlich sind

malheureusement, beaucoup de personnes craignent ceux qui sont différents

svandamme 08-19-2007 02:07 PM

Well said!! (well written, whatever)

I have no one on a formal "ignore list" feature.

There are some that I choose not to reply to any longer. Regardless of the intensity of their personal attack directed at me specifically.

This is not unusual. If you meet someone and they are a raging jerk, do you typically seek them them out for further association. You *might* give them another chance...You feel like a fool when you do and they turn out to be even worse. That's reality. Online or face to face.

i hope to be on at least 1...
Seriously, I don't have anyone on mine, the reason is simple. Even if i don't agree with people, I try to see all sides of it...who knows, I might change my view as a result.

stomachmonkey 08-19-2007 06:23 PM

Only one on my list. No one currently on this thread.

Interesting thread though.

Not sure what some of the monolouge has to do with it but does confirm what I have always thought.

cool_chick 09-09-2007 04:48 AM

Some people are so "proud" for some odd reason.... LOL

tabs...sometimes, just sometimes, you border on being "liberal" on some issues. I do not think one can be consistently one way or the other and retain their sanity.

+1

thrown_hammer 09-10-2007 07:38 AM

I have everyone on my ignore list. Every thread looks the same to me. I have to get all my information from the subject...:D

lm6y 09-10-2007 08:02 AM

Zero on mine.

If I were to put someone on that list, that means they live rent free in my empty skull. NO ONE will ever have that kind of power over me.

If I don't like someone, I don't hide from them, on the net, or in person.

I get a kick out of it when someone expresses an opinion, and then someone calls them a "troll". Most folks on here have no idea what a troll really is. Just because someone doesn't buy what you are sellin', and has thier own brand, doesn't make them a troll.

ain't it the truth!

but agree/disagree is different (or rather SHOULD be) from like/dislike. it takes a mature person to separate the two.

azasadny 09-10-2007 09:15 AM

I'd like to use the "ignore list" to include any thread that contains political rants. Shoot, that would be just about all of them!

In college, we referred to Fillmore as "Beermore" 'cause that's where we picked up beer on our road trips.

craigster59 09-10-2007 12:45 PM

Now it's "fruit n' nut more" with all the roadside produce stands. Wait a minute. you're on my "ignore list". I never read your post. carry on..
