What are you paying for boat insurance?

I was quoted $620 a year w/ a $500 deductible. $15,500 boat. Seems sporty from what I have heard.

Whats the average?

I pay 600.00 a yr for a 1980 36' C&C that has been surveyed for 55K thru BoatsUS. The age of boat has great effect on cost, the newer sometimes the cheaper ins. cost. Last yr I went ins cost hunting and actually found Allstate to be about 200 bucks cheaper than my present but with no credit towards on water towing. My coverage is for the pacific NW including san juan islands thru the gulf islands which are in canada.

I have since gotten a bigger outboard for my dingy so now I can actually win a dingy race once in awhile but most importantly if needed I could now use my dingy as a tugboat and push my boat to shore if needed. So now I may switch to Allstate.

Also, where you live and if its in the hurricane zone will make a difference in cost.

$1100 for Catalina 34 (agreed value $65K with Boat US), from Key West to Brownsville, TX. Hurricane territory makes a big difference.

Standard insurance on a pleasure craft is 5% of insured value per year. This covers PL&PD and fire / theft / sinking etc. This is what my dad pays on his 50' yacht.

Terry - last year we paid $1,400 on an $80,000 sailboat. A few months ago we got a cancellation letter - we never had a claim - they were getting out of FL entirely. Another company quoted $3,800. We are now self-insured...

I worked out a deal with my farmer's insurance agent and now we only insure our waverunners for a week at a time.
That way we don't have to insure them when they are sitting in the garage gathering dust, only for the 4 or 5 weeks a year they are actually in use.
the cost per week is pretty high but it's still way cheaper than insuring them year round.
Obviously that wouldn't work for a boat that is tied up a dock when not in use.
