CD/DVD protection sleeves/books etc...
It occurs to me that I need to start burning off stuff to DVD and getting rid of it from my hard drives.
The last CD sleeve book that I got prety much wasted any CD or DVD contained in it. Somehow, most of them got fairly sratched up. I've got 133 GB's of old and new Doctor Who episodes (every single one, up till the end of Tom Baker - and all the new ones) that I want to archive safely. Also, every single Top Gear.. A fair amount of stuff, really. Any suggestions for CD/DVD cases that won't let them get ruined?

Try the "clamshell" plastic cases that are flexible and don't crack like jewel cases do, I've been using them for years without any scratched DVD/CD's.

I would just get the paper sleeves or the small thin plastic cases. But more hard drives work as well. I believe I have just hit 5 drives averaging over 600 gigs of space and nearly all filled with recorded TIVO shows.

Wolf,
Put an advert on Craigs List or keep an eye there. I got about 400 of the black plastic binders that are used for DVD movies that someone was throwing out. They now hold my DVD storage and are very easy to print off a label, especially when compared to the old hard plastic covers..

I have several thousands cds, keep about a thousand or so in my players, and the rest I store in large 3-ring binders that hold 200 each. The removable "sheets" hold 4 discs on front/4 on back and I haven't had any issues with scratches, etc. I also like the clamshells, etc. too, but at some point space became a consideration for me. Just one caveat for long term archival with burned discs, the jury is still out on how well they will hold up as decades pass...time will tell.

I have loade and loads of the clear CD jewel cases...but they take up too much space. I went and bought a 500GB Seagate external drive (currently housing 234gb) the day before yesterday, for media storage. I tried burning soem DVD's the other day...they burnt bad and wound't read. Pretty sure we're getting bad disks.

I can't speak for DVDs, but when I was big into burning CDs, the only place to get quality blanks was online for a long time. You could eventually find decent blanks in stores, but even with a given brand, you had to make sure they were made in Japan (and not Taiwan), so you might have to look around for a good source.
