Republican Strategy?

it's no secret that the Republicans spent more than Democrats ever have from 2000 to 2006, with Bush never vetoing a single pork-laden "bridge to nowhere" bill.

With the war hanging around their necks, how are Republicans going to turn the tide in 08?

Prediction: Bush will start to veto spending bills labeling them as "tax and spend, big government" yada yada yada, running the Democrats through the Rove scare machine.

"if you aren't a traitor for questioning the war, you will tax and spend the American people into oblivion."

That will be in the top 3 of hardcore, pipe-hitting messages in 08.

Just a thought.

Under Bush2, we've borrowed more money than all prior administrations, combined.

I think we've also had the largest expansion of the Federal government in history, as well...

So the Repubs will run on their 'tradition of fiscal responsibility and smaller government.' Of course.

They will let the Democrats win so when the inevitable pull out of Iraq happens to stop the financial ruin of America they can blame the disaster that will ensure on them.

OK, it's a given that Clinton did nothing to help prevent the 911 wake up call, it was going to happen no matter who was elected. What would Kerry have done? What would you have done?

This is the question that I ask myself, and I wish more people would- with ANY political hot topic. If you REALLY put yourself in the shoes of any leader, and really get honest about it, its a dicey job.

Then again, its much easier to blame every single mishap worldwide on whomever is currently in power, and not show up to pick things up from Craigslist.

Nonsense. Clinton attempted to kill OBL. Bush did nothing whatsoever, despite having conclusive evidence that OBL was behind the Cole bombing delivered to him just before his inauguration.

Dean, I disagree. Bush upon taking office should have said something like: "WTF? The World Trade Center is bombed, the Cole is bombed!? These pansy-ass Democrats can't do anything right on the foreign stage. Let's get this Bin Laden guy."

Clinton didn't do enough, I agree. But Bush should have seen the signs and at a bare minimum placed a task force to investigate the guy that kept blowing up American interests.

instead Bush focused entirely on missile defense/Star Wars.

To answer the original question, the Republicans have found religion about spending and earmarks. Some maverick congressmen will continue to spoil the pork party and Bush may even veto a bill or two. The Republicans will play the 'culture of corruption' game and see if they can use the same playbook the Dems used in '06. The Republicans don't have much else, other than not being so quick to surrender the war.

I predict that Bush and Cheney will declare marshall law after an attack on the US and a financial collapse . They will remain in office and create a police state, this is how the neocons will keep power, Rove is working on the plan as we speak.

all happened on Clinton's watch, absolutely. And Clinton totally failed in taking out Bin Laden. So it makes you wonder why Bush didn't take charge and get the job done as one of the first things on the checklist when he took office. After all, there was a guy running around blowing up American interests. Don't you think Bush should have succeeded where Clinton failed? Or at least tried?

Wow, you're a regular fount of disinformation. Berger took copies of notes on 'after action reports' on the millenium bombing threat. The 911 Commission noted that nothing of interest to them had been taken.

The Clintons were in office eight years and didn't do anything, how long was GW in before the attack?

As far as trying, it seems we have spent a lot of lives, money, time trying.
