This video was from 96.... I was in Nashville at that time, studying audio production at
MTSU and working part time in a studio there. One day McDonald's engineer brought in the
rough mixes from Michael's new solo album. We all sat there, pretty knocked out at the sonic
quality and how everything just sparkled especially since they were rough mixes...
So about 1 week ago, I was thinking about that, and went online to listen to that record today...
it still sounded good but lacked 'warmth' and certainly no 'fun or humour'....I think that is what
perhaps held McDonald back from being a top solo artist: his music and voice are 'soulful' but tend
to be a little stiff and formal.... i mean, not a lot of his personality shows through the voice, but it
is very good and has unique tone....just misses a bit at hitting home with personality....
hope im making sense here....just my opinion overall.

cool video here

nostatic, that is a fantastic Steely Dan video. Funny how those other guitar solos
really are completely inappropriate for the song...and they knew it... i always loved
Denny Dias stuff with them, but that type of jazzy picking just didnt work with Peg.
Their diversity was what made them unique.

MMcD's voice is good, certainly, but you can count me among those who preferred the Doobies in their original cast.

Agreed....The first time I saw the Doobies was at the Moore Theater in Seattle when they had the Rising Stars concerts for 99 cents. They played for 2+ hours with no break.

Saw Supertramp at the same venue for the same price just a couple months later....those were the days.

He's good, no Taylor Hicks mind you, but good. Maybe they are still touring because once you split up the proceeds from a concert with all the members of that band, they might be clearing $75/each.;) I've actually always liked them. I remember my father buying "Living on the Fault line" and playing that growing up.

Here's a great live clip; "What a Fool Believes".

I'd have to call this song a guilty pleasure, that I've always loved. I first heard the song on the radio, as a kid, while driving in my Father's Triumph TR6. We were heading to the beach (Siesta Key in Sarasota FL, where I grew up) with the top down. It was just one of those moments. Regardless of the lyrics, the song just reminds me of good times with a man, that to this day, I still adore and worship, my Dad...
