I thought that means of making money died in 2001.

Did it make a resurgeance?

One of my clients was a day trader about 5 years ago. He lost about 750K and hears about it from his wife every day....

Looking at the daily trading ranges it looks tempting with some mad money.

Never done it.

I'm of the old school mode; try and pick good campanies, well managed, that offer good products and invest for the long run. Worked/works for me.

I am assuming day trading is going to consume a LOT of your day! Be prepared.

Day trading. Now there's a term I haven't heard in a long time. I'd recommend against it, but if it's your mad money, you're pretty sophisticated and willing to take the time to educate yourself and work on it, why not?

I have a client who sets up mutual funds. He says there's not that much to investing that the pros do that an individual can'tdo himself. He says the difference is that trading on your own account is a full time job, so you either work your portfolio full time or you work an ordinary job to make money and put your savings in a mutual fund or index fund where someone else watches it for you as his fulltime job.

I'm invested long term in the market with just a few stocks. Masimo (masi), Juniper Networks (jnpr) and Disney (dis). I have been putting some money into Tesoro (tso) due to a thread started by "sammyg" which I've been doing okay with and might put some $ into Valero (vlo), another oil stock from his thread. Overall I'm up about 25%, but like i said, it's long position so it ain't over till I sell..
