Maybe I haven't been here long enough, but I can assure you I never get bored of Pelican. The 996 forum is like watching paint dry, but the 911 section and OT are great. I can be fairly sure to pick up a couple of useful snippets on the 911 board when I visit there, and loose a couple of brain cells or spit tea all over the carpet when I visit OT.
Keep it up Chaps - bloody good job!

So here's a thought. Every time I see a Porsche, I wonder if the driver is a Pelicanite. If we were to spread the word about this site, we'd maybe get some 'new blood' and therefore greater diversity, right?

My 0.02.

Paul.

I've been here for three years now and have to admit that I'm not bored yet. I spend time in this forum just about every day - more so when I've got some issue I feel needs addressing with the black car. Typically, however, I just scan the threads in Tech, Racing, and OT and if I find something that piques my interest, I'll read and maybe join in.

It seems I can usually find something interesting about these cars, or maybe I'll be in a mood to defend the hated 996 or Cayman from the air cooled faithful. Interestingly, I spend quite a bit of time reading through the threads in OT but almost never comment. OT is definitely the ugly side of this forum, much more like so many other forums on the web.

I've actually made some friends because of this forum and I like to communicate to them through here.

Oh man, NOW you've done it. I can just about guarantee this quote will likely turn this non-political thread into one.

I do get bored sometimes...it is cyclical. It is funny, I have my browser set to go to the 911 tech board automatically, but I find myself going to another page almost immediately and not even viewing what is on the tech board. I then go to Rennlist to view the 993 info, which is very relevant to my new p-car. I take the blame, because I just get burned out at times. Although, it would be nice if more people used the search button more, instead of posting another "who makes the best ducktail" thread. ;)

How about if you add the Turbo-nator? Will both add a substantial HP gain?

Life itself is boring from time to time.

As a complete newbie this is a gold mine. Spending a couple of years here, I am starting to grasp some of the basics both in theory and practice. Nowadays it happens that I am actually able to post an answer or at least a comment on the tech board. After 40+ years of complete tech ignorance this gives me a sense of pride, silly enough.

As I drive a 3.2, I never have any problems - being the most robust and reliable model ever! ;) But I know that, should I have any issues, I would get the help I need here.

Yes, OT some days does not contain one single thread I care to read but when it does I find many of the posts very insightful and well spoken.

I also tend to regard this as a nice way of improving my English language! In that context I find it strange that there are not more Swedish active members. Not least since Sweden have more Porsche owners than most other countries per capita.

Finally, it is very nice to be welcomed as a durn for'ner in such a large community of people sharing a common passion. Simply nice to communicate with good people.

End boring rambling boring rambling boring..:D

could just be that it's summer

I was going to say it beats watching tv but decided that would be damming with faint praise. It certainly steepened the learning curve on the tech side. And you never what direction some of the OT topics will follow.

Pelican, like everything else, goes through changes. Yes, topics are repeated, but new information does come up on the tech board from time to time and sometimes it is worth the effort of logging on just to see how someone else screwed up. From time to time, one might even get a chance to assist a fellow Pelican in their time of need.
Boring, on the other hand is a function of the person viewing the threads rather than the content. Like many others, I have little interest in political threads. However I enjoy the humor which seems to run as a common glue through much of the board.
Because we all change and the board itself changes, there will be intersections of interest and areas of no-interest.
But boring? Not to me.

Not bored with it yet, but the political stuff is tiring. I rarely get involved with the political bs, plus it get too personal. My car has been vitually trouble free, so the tech section gets infrequent visits. I scan through it everyday anyway just to see what guys are posting.
I vist a few other BBS. Dodge and Ford truck boards, a powerboating bbs and a few other ones invloving my numerous hobbies. But other than the boating one where I am personal friends with many members, this place has become almost like an extended family where u get to know peoples personalities and what too expect from them.

Rick V 08-25-2007 05:26 AM

Well being a Tech, I have little to no use for the tech section. I have all the info I need at my disposal. I used to like to hang out in OT but after trying to get answers from the mods and having threads closed, and being brushed under the rug I have slowed my "stopping by". I have also waited for over 6 months to get a $25 wrong part settled, So I get my parts elsewhere. I guess I just feel like the east coasters get little help or support.
I would say "Yes I am bored, but I still stop by". I have made some good friends here and that is why I stay.

Porsche_monkey 08-25-2007 06:31 AM

So a guy buys leather boots and a steering wheel and trys to meld the two together and you think it's boring? Nobody can write stuff that funny.

But overall, yes it's too much 'which oil', 'zddp', and 'which street tire is best'.

I've received so much help over the years I go 'over there' almost as an obligation. I also know that when I have a problem, some time in the future, there will be other experienced people there to help. It's a two way street.

But like someone else said, when you've rebuilt a couple of engines, taken every bolt off two or three cars, it does get boring and repeptetive. Until someone tries to re-cover a steering wheel with a pair boots from a dominatrix.

azasadny 08-25-2007 06:36 AM

I've been here 5 years and I still enjoy it. I'm not able to drive the 911 year 'round, so this forum keeps me sane during the winter. So many people have helped me here that I would like to help others if I can...

Rot 911 08-25-2007 06:38 AM

I still enjoy the board. My map through the board is the used parts classifieds, cars for sale, marketplace, engine rebuild forum, tech forum then off to OT. I don't need much tech info anymore, but every now and then someone has a tech problem that I can help them on.

CJFusco 08-25-2007 07:00 AM

I've also stopped reading the political threads... actually, I stopped reading them about 2 years ago. My belief is that the Left screaming at the Right or vice-versa isn't going to change anyone's mind, especially on a BBS - people are already set in their beliefs.

Mo_Gearhead 08-25-2007 07:17 AM

I check this site almost daily. IMO many intelligent members and contributors.
Good tech. help and thoughtful/provocative O.T. (sometimes).

But geez, some are soooo consumed with political leanings, they use any chance to steer a thread in that direction. After a few such posts, I usually abandon that thread. The bickering becomes intolerable.

Porsche_monkey 08-25-2007 07:18 AM

And you can't see how this is caused by Geo. W? :)

Never bored here.
