Thumbs down Why do people tolerate this!

Beer at spectator events that are 400% more expensive than the store.

I paid $12 for a 24oz Sierra Nevada at the track today.
Stupid, I know, but I really wanted a beer.

Bottled water was $4

Why the blatent rip-offery?

Because they can and people will ultimately pay . Plain and simple.

I won't do it.

Man I go to any deal like that and I eat and drink before and after, or do the tailgate thing. I can make a wicked grilled chicken sandwich. Used to do that a lot at Candlestick when Barry first came to town from Pittsburgh, pre steroid. In the field he was like watching a deer with a good arm.

The last sporting event that I know of where this does not happen - if you have never been you would never guess. The Masters golf tournament - Beer, a ham and cheese sandwich, pimento cheese sandwich and chips all for about $6 total.

I talked to a guy last week who said to take his family to a Yankee's game is a grand. Beer is $9.

The concessions are where the dough is on many events, whether it is the track, the movies or a little league game.

Yeah, but that's how it is every where. Go to the movies, expect to pay big $$ for the concessions or skip them.

Heck, go to a bar on Sunset strip. Same thing, it's expensive to go out for a night, but, the alternatives are to stay home. It's part of the day. If I was there, I would internally ***** and complain, but if I really wanted a beer, I'd pay.

Dave

OK, Biatch is not a word that needs to be censored!

+1

The folk at the Augusta National really know how to treat the crowd. My Dad came over from the UK to visit and I took him there last year. He was amazed at the reasonable prices for food and drinks. When you can go to a really good event like that and come away feeling that you haven't been politely mugged you want to go back.

Until last month, my fiancee and I hadn't gone to a theater in almost two years. We got fed up when we paid $24 for two matinee tickets, a bottle of water and a bag of peanut M&Ms and still got to watch 30 minutes of commercials before the movie started. I almost walked out of the theater.

Regarding the cost of concessions, I agree, it's insane (although in some ways I can't fault them... if you knew you could sell a beer for $9 and people would line up to buy it, would you still charge $3?). But then, that's one of the main reasons I simply don't go to places like that.

$12 for a 24 oz.

So you paid $6 for a 12 oz.

Outa line but about average, I've seen worse.

Sucks though.

20 years ago the old Jones Beach Theater on Long Island started doing rock concerts. 1st time the theater made a profit in 50 years. They used to sell beer and even let you bring whatever you wanted inside.

Gradually the BYOB went away and then one night a girl leaving the show drove into an open draw bridge killing herself and her younger sister. She had been drinking. That was the end of them selling alcochol.

While I'm sure the high prices are motivated by profit I wonder if it is also a way to control consumption? The more it costs the less you drink?

Scott

Stop going to the track, and tell them why with a picture of the saved money overflowing the cookie jar.
They lose their parking, entrance, concession and slips sales. They could care less, but if enough people felt the same way they would start to.

Or just keep going.
