The wonders of Kitty Litter.....oil leaks on concrete

Wow....I forgot how easy spreading kitty litter on oil spots cleans up the mess! The wife's Volvo is doing an Exxon Valdez impression and I threw some on to soak up the fresh stuff....

Then I ground it in with my work boots. It even cleaned up old stains from my Speedster and 911. I was about to whip out my pressure washer and do the deed with that.

Now I can do OTHER projects.

Yeah, the cat litter works great. And depending on how much oil, it can be used a few times. Another neat trick for more thorough cleaning is pour paint thinner or turpentine on affected area and scrub with a wire brush. Add the cat litter to absorb. Be sure to have lots of ventilation and use gloves.

Try Grinding it in with a paving brick on the tough spots. It's a little more labor intensive than your boot, but it gives better results.

I usually sweeo it into a pile, off to the side. When I get another spill, I just sweep the pile onto the spill. It's amazing how much it will absorb, even after you think it's ready to be thrown out.

It also works great to soak up left over paint, which can then be disposed of at the curb.

I spray Simple Green (undiluted) on any oil stains on my concrete and let it dry. After I do this a few times, the oil stain is gone!

Spray brake cleaner also works well for this.

Word to the wise... do not use clumping cat litter if there is any chance it will come into contact with water or antifreeze. It turns to something like cement and must be scraped up off of the floor. Ask me how I know...
