Which state has the worst reputation?
I hate to bring this up, but an American friend of mine asked me this question today. I think the question was actually phrased as;
"Which state has the worst 'trailer trash' image?" To clarify, they were looking for the state that gets the worst press as a low-life, scumbag, criminal infested, redneck inhabited kind of place. I did put forward an answer, but I don't feel qualified enough to give a strong opinion. So, from a totally unbiased point of view, what would you guys say? |
Come on... you LIVE on the SC/GA border!!!
I vote for Alabama as the most trailer trash state I've driven through. |
As far as white-trashy, I'm tempted to say either Alabama or Arkansas, but I do hear a lot of snide remarks about West Virginia.
I know that New Jersey gets a TERRIBLE rap in the northeast because the northern section of NJ, just outside NYC is a dump. There are some downright gorgeous sections of NJ, though... |
I feel that my own state (Alabama) should at least get an honorable mention, if not win it outright. Then again, there's Mississippi to contend with...
Actually, there's not a lot of crime here, but we've got things like poor education ratings, poverty, lack of health care and most recently found to be very high in obesity... |
We got some good'uns here in Texas. I'm one, minus the crime and the fact that I don't live in a trailer, yet.

Florida. Particularly the panhandle.

For example I would say that SC is worse than GA :D but then maybe I'm going on the area I live in rather than the state in general. On the other hand I wondered about Alabama, but from the little I've seen of it it looked really nice. Louisiana and Mississippi seemed like strong candidates, but I've never been there. But then these are all Southern States, there must be Northern States in contention too, or are there? |
Florida is a strong contender, but it also has a lot of redeeming parts as well.
1) Mississippi 2) Alabama 3) Missouri |
When I was in AL for one year ('94) the acting governor was in because the elected one was in prison. The state senator from my county was in prison and my town mayor went to prison in that year. He came back to win the local election for another term as mayor before I left!!! That's gotta count for something. There was a long list of officials that went to jail over the years before I got there.
Mississippi is just downright poor. If you were looking for poverty and not just graft and criminals, Miss would win hands down, IMO. |
Louisiana

The reason that Mississippi exists is to keep Nevada from being last.

Where's Illinois?
We may not be too redneck, but we've got an over-abundance of urban trash--that has been conditioned by corrupt politicians to seek handouts over work and new laws over personal responsibility. And we have Jesse Jackson, the king of the blame throwers. |
I think that the political corruption that has run rampant (Longs, Edwards, Blanco, etc) for so long should push Louisiana over the top.
|
I travel to many states and I can tell you, EVERY state can be a contender, but for total overall?, hmm,.. Somewhere in the southeast... Ga, SC, Fl, Al, La, Ms

Most/all of FL sucks due to the number of scumbags here (of all economic status). That's why I'm leaving.

Not to mention a New Orleans mobster was involved with killing JFK and Oswald. |
You mean there's really corruption here?
|
Mississippi
Missouri Arkansas but, For graft, corruption and trash of all sort, Lousiana wins, hands down. |
