Which state has the worst reputation?
I hate to bring this up, but an American friend of mine asked me this question today. I think the question was actually phrased as;
"Which state has the worst 'trailer trash' image?" To clarify, they were looking for the state that gets the worst press as a low-life, scumbag, criminal infested, redneck inhabited kind of place. I did put forward an answer, but I don't feel qualified enough to give a strong opinion. So, from a totally unbiased point of view, what would you guys say? |
Come on... you LIVE on the SC/GA border!!!
I vote for Alabama as the most trailer trash state I've driven through. |
As far as white-trashy, I'm tempted to say either Alabama or Arkansas, but I do hear a lot of snide remarks about West Virginia.
I know that New Jersey gets a TERRIBLE rap in the northeast because the northern section of NJ, just outside NYC is a dump. There are some downright gorgeous sections of NJ, though... |
I feel that my own state (Alabama) should at least get an honorable mention, if not win it outright. Then again, there's Mississippi to contend with...
Actually, there's not a lot of crime here, but we've got things like poor education ratings, poverty, lack of health care and most recently found to be very high in obesity... |
We got some good'uns here in Texas. I'm one, minus the crime and the fact that I don't live in a trailer, yet.
|
Florida. Particularly the panhandle.

For example I would say that SC is worse than GA :D but then maybe I'm going on the area I live in rather than the state in general. On the other hand I wondered about Alabama, but from the little I've seen of it it looked really nice. Louisiana and Mississippi seemed like strong candidates, but I've never been there. But then these are all Southern States, there must be Northern States in contention too, or are there? |
Florida is a strong contender, but it also has a lot of redeeming parts as well.
1) Mississippi 2) Alabama 3) Missouri |
When I was in AL for one year ('94) the acting governor was in because the elected one was in prison. The state senator from my county was in prison and my town mayor went to prison in that year. He came back to win the local election for another term as mayor before I left!!! That's gotta count for something. There was a long list of officials that went to jail over the years before I got there.
Mississippi is just downright poor. If you were looking for poverty and not just graft and criminals, Miss would win hands down, IMO. |
Louisiana

The reason that Mississippi exists is to keep Nevada from being last.

Where's Illinois?
We may not be too redneck, but we've got an over-abundance of urban trash--that has been conditioned by corrupt politicians to seek handouts over work and new laws over personal responsibility. And we have Jesse Jackson, the king of the blame throwers. |
I think that the political corruption that has run rampant (Longs, Edwards, Blanco, etc) for so long should push Louisiana over the top.
|
I travel to many states and I can tell you, EVERY state can be a contender, but for total overall?, hmm,.. Somewhere in the southeast... Ga, SC, Fl, Al, La, Ms

Most/all of FL sucks due to the number of scumbags here (of all economic status). That's why I'm leaving.

Not to mention a New Orleans mobster was involved with killing JFK and Oswald. |
You mean there's really corruption here?
|
Mississippi
Missouri Arkansas but, For graft, corruption and trash of all sort, Lousiana wins, hands down. |
I've actually been to Missouri, but it just struck me as a whole lot of nothing. Again, it may have just been the part I saw, just mile upon mile of bugger all. We passed the time by playing 'Name that road kill'.

Without a doubt, Massachusetts.

Thats an easy one. Which state is Bill "trailer trash" Clinton from?
|
Florida has it's share of trash - but enough good to offset a large portion of it. Land is getting expensive in Florida so many of the trailer parks are going away. If you want ass poor - hard to pass up mississippi. Graft and corruption - Louisiana hands down. Want a high "bubba" factor - then Texas would win. plenty of southern states could win this award on any given sunday.
|
This should have been a poll. I may be moving to the "winner" state.
Gimme a redneck over a Southern Californicate type "I'm rich" guy any day of the week... NOT just speaking SoCal, BTW...plenty of those types in the urban Portland, Orygun area... |
Pennsylvania: Pittsburg to the west, Philadelphia to the east and Alabama in the middle...
|
Louisiana
but I would rather live with "necks" than pretentious A$$ hole cali types. |
Michigan (AKA Michissippi)
|
George Ryan
Hillary Clinton Barack Obama Jesse Jackson Richard M. Daley Richard J. Daley Do you guys need much more convincing on Illinois? I might have to due some research. IIRC, we've sent 7 (soon to be 8 when Blago gets indicted) governors to prison since WWII. |
As a foriegn guy who doesn't really know the US too well; I always thought it was FL.
My GF changed planes at LAX and said she wanted to look around America with me, I said sure, but the rest of it is fairly much like LAX. |

And we did kill those theives Bonnie & Clyde, so maybe that'll give us a few points. (Oops...sorry, I forgot William "cold cash" Jefferson. Trumps Bonnie & Clyde);) |
Mississippi
Alabama Georgia redneckville states We have rednecks up here, but they don't compare to the southern rednecks as far as trashy housing, yards and lack of teeth |
what's a redneck? we've got trailers, we've got trash. the only so called rednecks I see are from another part of the country, usually from the west, out here looking for work.
|
Alaska has to rank right up there with the best...er worst. The longest serving republican senator, Ted Stevens is under investigation for corruption and who know what else. His son, a former state senator is being investigated, two former house members on trial this week and one more just around the corner. Our lone house member, Don Young is under investigation as well. He's the one that tried to sucker those bridges to nowhere.
Anyway, seems like all the trash from the lower 48 eventually makes it up here so they can join the huge ranks of welfare republicans and benefits like subsidized child birth. Boy these people can breed when someone else is footing the bill. |
Being born in and living near North Dakota most of my childhood, I can tell you it pretty much gets no respect. My kin are spread mostly across eastern ND and western Mn. When I tell friends I'm vacationing in Fargo, you should see the eyes roll.
You won't find a generally more honest hard working folk anywhere. |
The South must be doing something correct. It seems that half of the northern population is moving down here. Also Huntsville, AL ranked as the #1 place to live south of the 37th parallel with metropolitan areas with more than 250,000 residents, eat your heart out SoCal.

I'm getting bad when I can't even spell Mississippi...It just goes to show U that the worst educational system in the US is in CA, as I am a shining product of the CA public education system. Would U believe I am a graduate of the University of CA and, NO... NOT UC SANTA CRUZ.... It was another one that was down by the beach. |
I have a friend that is a Sanderson Farm Contract Chicken Farmer down in ole Miss...he has a sign as U enter his farm which reads.."Arbeit Macht Frei."
I guess the US is filling up with stupid a$$ mtherfkers..... I wonder if watching Television has anything to with it? Americans would rather watch Deal No Deal than read a book that might actually learn them something. But if U can't beat em join em... here is a pic of my humble abode in LV. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1188899948.jpg BTW: Note the picture windows in the front of the trailer have a nice view of the dumpster... that is an extra $20 a month. |

I may put in for a transfer to Fargo in the next few months depending... it beat the hell out of anything this place has to offer. |
