If they really wanted it to look accurate, it should have been a left-handed kit, as Phil is a lefty. Though I don't know if he or Chester Thompson (a righty) played on the recording.

Phil Collins is vastly underrated as a drummer. Awesome song too.

Cowboy Mouth. IMO one of the best bar-club bands ever. It's hard to follow them on a bill, too.

That song reminds me of the one about a Mexican Radio. Voodoo someone.

Collins was on drums during Clapton's '87 tour (4-piece band with Nathan East and Greg Phillanganes). They did that song in the set, and the place went nuts when that drum break comes in. It is one of the great/signature moments in recorded rock.

Don Henley is another good singer/drummer, although he's more singer than drummer (but still no slouch).

That's it. Every time we would go on vacation to South Padre Texas on spring break from the time the kids were little we would start out our trips listening to that song first on tape and later CD's. The joke being once you got that far south 90% of the stations were Mexican music. Only 820 miles to go and we live in Texas.

Oh, and I didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Man, that's my least favorite Phil Collins song next to Mama. I can't keep straight what's Phil's solo stuff and later Genesis stuff. I was watching one of their old school shows on VH1 a while back and they had a Phil and Bill Bruford duet on In the Cage. Just unreal stuff. Rod Morgenstein is the only lefty I've seen play live and it's just bizarre to watch.

What a great commercial! Yep - that is a killer kit. Not really clear on the meaning and the only thing I can say is that you would have to wait a pretty long time to have an ape do that riff correctly.

Great song as well - heard an interview with Phil on it, said it was about him walking in on his girl cheating on him with another guy. I thought he knew the guy, fuzzy on the details though...

FYI.................don henley, was hometown girl, linda ronstats drummer in the early days befo the eagles.

another unreal drummer is george grantham of poco. been around forever back to the buffalo springfield daze.

sadly he was hit by a stroke that paralyzed him and he has been unable to play since, for POCO.

played for pearl drums.

my next kit either DW or yamaha. want to play both befo i drop big bucks for the last set i'll ever own.

my mapex kit has been great. my buddies band has used it a number of times now and no harm no fouls. and his drummer is NUTS! and a hell of alot younger than me.

evans skins seem to be able to take total abuse for some time until puncture. even sound pretty good soaked in BEER!

zjildian cymbals.................havent even dented one! there amazing.

but i will need a BIGGER COWBELL FOR MY NEXT SET!

I think you're thinking of Lindsey Buckingham catching Mick Fleetwood with Stevie Nicks.

Actually, the drum set looks a little like Phil Collin's, but a mirror image. Too bad the ape couldn't play along accurately with the admittedly simple track. I've always considered Phil Collins to be one of my favorite drummers and influences (when I used to play). He's an excellent example of a guy who's fully capable of putting a lot of notes out there and being busy (kind of like Niel Pert) especially if he wants to, like in Genesis's early days. Speaking of wierd, there isn't much wierder then an early Genesis stage show!

And how about this drum line-up, Phil Collins AND Bill Bruford!

From that he evolved to the famous stripped down, compressed drum sound which he developed for a number of tracks on Peter Garbriel's face melting album, starting with the first track: "Intruder"

(Note that this is a 2007 recording with someone else playing the drums.
