Guilty Pleasure Songs
Since we have a "Songs I Need to Hear Again", and a "Songs I Never Need to Hear Again" - with everyone acting all righteous about THEIR taste in music,... I wonder what are the lousy, not-respected-by-critics songs that you like anyway. Maybe you only listen to them or sing along with them when no one is around. I am older than a bunch of you guys but (gulp) I'll admit to these:
Cover of the Rolling Stone (Is that even the right title?) Eye of the Tiger (When I'm running - Gawd, Frank Stallone and I'm admitting to it?!) There are others but I'm too chicken to admit them! ![]()

I was exposed to a lot of different music growing up and still like to listen to it when I'm wrenching on the cars or doing something where I need to focus. Thrash music tends to irritate me when I'm working on project.
I know it might sound "old fogey-ish", but I listen to The Mills Bros., Perry Como, Cal Tjader, Bobby Darin, Louis Armstrong, Ella, Nina Simone, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, and of course blues (Mississippi Fred McDowell, Big Bill Broonzy, Slim Harpo, Lightnin' Hopkins, etc) the list goes on and on. I've actually turned many friends on to some good eclectic music over the years.

I was flipping through the channels on the weekend and came across "Ferris Beulers Day off". Yello - Oh Yeah, must have listened to it a dozen tires in the car so far this week

There are a few over on the "Songs I Never Need to Hear Again" thread.
![]() I can't recall the name but various stuff by Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Coldplay, U2, Arlo Guthrie, red hot chili peppers... I won't even get into the jazz and classical. ![]()

We're mostly a punk/pre-grunge alternative family. Maybe some hardcore and rockabilly, too.
However... Post y2k Kylie Minogue (didya see the Agent Provocateur ad/video?) and any Pet Shop Boys are pretty catchy -- I guess disco never died. Marylin Manson is so over-the-top poppy in its wannabe darkness that I'll not change the station, if you know what I mean. mike '78SC '02C2 |

The Carpenters. Yep. Corny, sappy, but I absolutely love singing along.
Remember that movie 'tommy Boy" with Chris Farley and David Spade? They were driving along and fighting over the radio stations when a Carpenters song came on. Next thing you know they were both singing at the top of their lungs DONCHA REMEMBER YA TOLD ME YA LOVED ME BABY...... Very funny stuff and true. Last edited by sammyg2; 08-30-2007 at 09:29 AM.. |

Not a big country fan... but...
The old Lyle lovet (when he played with a big band) and old Dwight Yokum (SP?) [guitars Cadillacs, etc.] and Willy Nelson. I was channel surfing and caught something on CMT called "country outlaws", it wasn't too bad but it also wasn't country music, more like old rock 'N roll ![]() Just for balance let me say I like Miles Davis and Charley Bird too. ![]()

If you like Dwight Yoakam, get the album dwightyoakamacoustic.net, it's just him and his guitar playing his hits.
Also, CMT has a show "Crossroads" where they put together country and rock artists together like Melissa Ethridge/Dolly Parton, Lindsay Buckinghgam/Little Big Town, etc. playing each others songs.
